Sun Devils Chase Another Title With Impressive Performance in Tucson

Amid a demanding schedule, the Sun Devil men's golf team is making their mark in Tucson, chasing another victory in the Arizona Thunderbirds Collegiate.

The Sun Devil men's golf team is making waves at the Arizona Thunderbirds Collegiate, sitting in third place after two rounds with a score of 17-under 559. They're just four strokes behind the leader, Long Beach State, who still has some second-round holes to finish before the final round kicks off.

Leading the charge for Arizona State is Fifa Laopakdee, who has been on fire with a 9-under 135, positioning him just four shots behind Long Beach’s Alejandro De Castro. De Castro is set to complete five more holes in his second round before the competition heats up again on Tuesday morning.

Raul Gomez is also turning heads, playing as an individual and sitting at 7-under with a few holes left in his second round. His opening round was a standout, featuring a 6-under 66 and an impressive eagle on the par-5 10th.

The Sun Devils are in the midst of a busy stretch, competing in five tournaments across various locations like Mexico and Texas within just 31 days. They recently clinched the Desimone Invitational in dominant fashion, with Laopakdee sharing co-medalist honors. Their 39-under performance left TCU trailing by 20 strokes, showcasing their prowess against top-ranked teams like Texas and Pepperdine.

ASU’s recent successes add to their impressive record of six team wins over the past two seasons, including notable victories at the Desimone Invitational and the Sahalee Players Championship.

As the tournament continues at Tucson Country Club, the Sun Devils are aiming to topple the host team, Arizona, who have a strong history at this event. The Wildcats have claimed victory seven of the last eight years, making the challenge even more exciting for ASU.

With the final round approaching, all eyes will be on the Sun Devils to see if they can close the gap and take the top spot. Their performance so far certainly puts them in a strong position to make a run for the title.
