Sun Devil Gymnastics Loses Home Meet After Iowa State Cancels Season, Eyes Senior Day Sendoff
TEMPE - Sun Devil Gymnastics is adjusting on the fly after Iowa State announced it would not finish out the 2026 season, leading to the cancellation of Arizona State’s scheduled home meet on February 22.
ASU had been actively exploring options to fill the now-vacant date, but despite efforts, the program was unable to secure a replacement opponent for a home meet. The team is now shifting focus, working to potentially schedule a road meet to keep the competition rhythm going.
Head coach Jay Santos acknowledged the disappointment, especially for a team that thrives on the energy of its home crowd.
“Our Sun Devil gymnasts love every opportunity they have to compete in front of our fans and make Gym Devil Nation proud,” Santos said. “So the loss of our next home competition is extremely unfortunate for our athletes and our fans alike.”
With the February 22 meet off the calendar, all eyes now turn to March 15 - the final regular-season home meet, which doubles as Senior Day. That one’s shaping up to be a special night at Desert Financial Arena, as ASU hosts Utah State and SEMO in what will be the last home appearance for the team’s graduating athletes.
Santos is calling on the Sun Devil faithful to show up in force.
“I would like to urge and encourage all of Sun Devil Nation to come out for our final home meet on March 15 and give our seniors and whole team an amazing home atmosphere,” he said. “Let’s rally together for an unforgettable final home meet.”
Fans who purchased tickets for the canceled Iowa State meet won’t be left hanging - they’ll receive a ticket to the March 15 meet. Season ticket holders will also get an additional ticket for that event, giving even more fans a chance to pack the stands.
And while the regular season wraps up in mid-March, there’s still plenty of gymnastics left in Tempe. ASU is one of four NCAA Regional host sites this year, with postseason action set to take over Desert Financial Arena from April 1-4.
So while the February 22 cancellation is a letdown, the stage is set for a high-energy finish to the season. Between Senior Day and NCAA Regionals, Sun Devil Gymnastics still has some big moments ahead - and they’ll be looking to make the most of every one of them.
