Arizona State women’s basketball now knows the road ahead in Molly Miller’s second season, and the Big 12 schedule starts with a familiar name.
The conference released its 2026-2027 women’s basketball slate Thursday morning, and the Sun Devils will open league play on Dec. 21 against Utah. After a 24-11 debut in Tempe that included a 9-9 mark in Big 12 play, Miller gets a December conference opener that could ease the transition from non-conference action.
That early stretch won’t be light. Arizona State will spend time in two different multi-team events and make trips to UNLV and Stanford before the Utah game arrives.
But the Utes, at least, are a known opponent. ASU beat Utah twice in 2025-2026, winning 69-68 in Salt Lake City and 71-61 in Tempe.
Those two victories accounted for nearly a fourth of the Sun Devils’ conference wins.
Even with those losses, Utah finished ahead of Arizona State in the Big 12 at 10-8 and reached the NCAA tournament. So while the Sun Devils swept the season series a year ago, the matchup still figures to be a meaningful early test.
The bigger question for ASU is whether its home-heavy profile from last season can carry over. Desert Financial Arena was a major advantage, with the Sun Devils going 15-2 at home.
On the road, they were 7-7, and they were 2-2 at neutral sites. If that split shows up again, this schedule could help.
Arizona State will host four of the Big 12’s top five finishers: TCU, West Virginia, Baylor and Texas Tech. The road slate still brings plenty of trouble, though, including a holiday trip to Colorado and back-to-back away games against Kansas/Kansas State and Oklahoma State/Houston.
The rivalry with Arizona lands late again. The Sun Devils and Wildcats will meet in Tempe on Jan. 30 and in Tucson on Feb. 27, with the regular season ending in that final showdown.
That setup has become familiar. In 2024-2025, the teams played on Mar. 1 in Tempe on senior night, and in two of the three regular seasons since Arizona and Arizona State joined the Big 12, the rivalry has closed out the schedule.
Arizona State won the last meeting, 54-51, in the first round of last season’s Big 12 Tournament. The Sun Devils also hold the all-time series edge, 66-43.
Before any of that conference work begins, Arizona State opens its season Nov. 2 against Jackson State, with a 5:00 p.m. MST tip at Desert Financial Arena.
