Arizona State Gets Another Huge Chance In A Place That Haunts Fans

The Arizona State Sun Devils prepare to challenge the formidable BYU Cougars in Provo on Halloween, aiming for a much-needed victory in their Big 12 campaign.

Kickoff for Arizona State’s Halloween trip to Provo is set, and the Sun Devils will get the late-afternoon slot against one of the hottest teams in the country.

On Saturday, Oct. 31, ASU travels to face No.

2 BYU, with kickoff scheduled for 1:30 p.m. MST/12:30 p.m.

AZ on FOX.

The matchup brings back plenty of recent memories for Arizona State fans. The last time these two met, it was the regular-season showdown in Tempe that helped send the Sun Devils to the 2024 Big 12 Championship game.

This time around, the backdrop looks a lot different.

Arizona State comes in at 3-3 and 1-2 in the Big 12 after a blowout loss to No. 10 Texas Tech, trying to steady its season instead of chasing the heights of 2024.

BYU, meanwhile, is right in the thick of the conference title race. The Cougars beat No.

2 Notre Dame this past week and jumped six spots in the AP Poll, climbing from No. 8 to No. 2.

Recent history in the series has tilted toward BYU, which has won three of the last four meetings. But the all-time numbers still favor Arizona State, which leads the series 21-8 overall.

The Sun Devils also have a long road to get over in Provo. ASU has not won there since 1994, and its most recent trip to LaVell Edwards Stadium came in 2021, when the Cougars won 27-17 under Herm Edwards in the Pac-12.

Kenny Dillingham has faced BYU before, but this will be his first visit to LaVell Edwards Stadium.

There’s also a deeper thread running through this matchup: the old Western Athletic Conference ties. ASU was in the WAC from 1962 to 1977 before moving on to the Pac, while BYU joined in 1962 and stayed until 1998. The two played conference games for 15 years.

Now, nearly 50 years after those WAC days, Arizona State and BYU meet again as Big 12 opponents for the second time.

Arizona States Secret Scrimmage Has Fans Watching For One Early Sign

Arizona State appears to have quietly gotten a first look at another opponent before the real preseason slate begins. Colorado States social media account said the two programs met for a mens basketball scrimmage on Oct. 17, giving the Sun Devils an early chance to test themselves in a low-profile setting before their exhibition games later in the month.

There has been no official score or detailed recap, and Arizona State has not posted anything about the workout, which leaves fans reading between the lines for any hint of where the roster stands. For now, the intrigue is less about the result than the fact that the Sun Devils already have a live evaluation under their belt, with the more public preseason action still ahead. [Read more 🡒]

Arizona State Suddenly Has A Quarterback Decision It Can't Ignore

Arizona States quarterback picture got a lot murkier in the middle of a rough night against Texas Tech, when junior Cutter Boley threw two interceptions, including a pick-six, as the Sun Devils fell behind in a hurry. Head coach Kenny Dillingham turned to sixth-year quarterback Mikey Keene at halftime, and the switch immediately gave the offense a different look.

Keene responded by throwing for 256 yards and two touchdowns in the second half, enough to make the move impossible to ignore as Dillingham heads into the next stretch of the season. The coach said he would evaluate the position moving forward, and after a game like this, Arizona State has a decision looming that it can no longer treat as routine. [Read more 🡒]
