Arizona Comment Rubs Salt In WVU Wound

Arizona's decisive victory over West Virginia was marked by head coach Brent Brennan's strategic insights on neutralizing the Mountaineer defense.

Arizona’s 52-31 win over West Virginia on Saturday afternoon was shaped by big plays on both sides of the ball, and Wildcats coach Brent Brennan made it clear afterward that his team had to survive some serious pressure before pulling away.

Brennan started by tipping his cap to the Mountaineers. He said, "I got a lot of respect for West Virginia.

That coaching staff, that team... Those guys fought their tails off against us all afternoon.

That quarterback is a total stud, and we knew that coming in, and he gave us problems all day. But I thought when we had to, our defense answered.

Five fourth down stops and two turnovers."

One of the biggest reasons Arizona kept control was the breakout day from Isaiah Mizell against West Virginia’s defense. Brennan didn’t mince words about the mismatch.

"They had no answer for him. And there were at least three pass interference plays against him, and those are explosive plays in my book as well."

Arizona also got a massive swing play when West Virginia fumbled at the goal line. Brennan said that moment came down to his defensive front winning at the point of attack.

"It was such a huge play. I thought our defensive line just totally dug out the offensive line of West Virginia and re-established, and we were able to come in there and rip that thing.

And what a huge play in that moment in the game."

Later, when West Virginia brought heavy pressure in the third quarter, Arizona found the answer downfield. Brennan explained, "They brought a zero pressure in the third quarter there, and we hit Isaiah [Mizell] on a slant and it split and he was gone. They're bringing more than you can block, your quarterback has to find a throwing lane to get the ball through, and Isaiah has to catch and finish it."

Looking back on the matchup, Brennan said Arizona expected the Mountaineers’ speed to create problems, but the larger challenge was sorting through their multiple looks. "We thought that they'd have a hard time with the speed of Mizell and Jet, but the truth is that a lot of people have problems with that.

The challenging thing coming in was how multiple they've been. Could we find a run game and take advantage of pressure situations where you have to beat man coverage?

They're bringing more than you can block, so you have to win at the receiver position outside. And we played complementary football and that's how we got the dub."

Arizona State Fans Just Got A Telling First Look At Bennetts Spotlight

Arizona States mens basketball program has already given fans an early look at how next season will be framed, releasing a television schedule that puts the Sun Devils on several of the sports biggest stages. The 2026-27 slate includes appearances on ESPN, FOX, CBS Sports Network and ESPN+, a sign that the program will again spend plenty of time in the national spotlight as it works through another year under the postseason glare that comes with Power conference basketball.

The schedule also points to a familiar mix of home dates and high-profile neutral-site games, including a trip to the Acrisure Series in Palm Springs that will air on CBS Sports Network. Those windows tend to shape how teams are viewed before league play settles in, and Arizona State will get more of those chances early, with a neutral-site matchup against Oklahoma also part of the nonconference build.
