The Diamondbacks' impressive five-game unbeaten streak met its match at Camelback Ranch, but there were still some silver linings to take away. Michael Soroka, fresh off his World Baseball Classic stint, was nothing short of stellar in his return.
He delivered five scoreless innings, allowing just a single hit and a walk while striking out eight. Unfortunately, Soroka didn't get the win, as the game unraveled in the sixth inning with a three-run surge against Brandyn Garcia and Ryan Thompson.
A costly error by second baseman Jacob Amaya meant those runs were unearned, but Garcia struggled, retiring only two of the six batters he faced. Jonathan Loasiga later gave up the only earned run in the eighth.
Offensively, Arizona made their mark early. In the top of the first, Pavin Smith got things rolling with an RBI single.
He then stole second and eventually scored, setting the tone for the game. Jorge Barrosa and Amaya each contributed two of the team's six hits, along with a walk.
Gabriel Moreno was a standout in patience, drawing three walks and swiping a base as well.
Looking ahead, the Diamondbacks will be back in action tomorrow evening at Salt River Fields, with the game rescheduled to 6:10 pm due to anticipated high temperatures. Zac Gallen is set to take the mound, aiming to start a new winning streak for the D-backs.
