Eduardo Rodriguez had already done plenty to trouble the Dodgers this season. On Friday night, he finally got the result to match it.
After opening the game by giving up back-to-back homers to Shohei Ohtani and Andy Pages, Rodriguez settled in and blanked Los Angeles the rest of the way, helping the Diamondbacks roll to a 9-3 win at Dodger Stadium in the opener of a three-game series.
Rodriguez worked six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out five, finishing the first half at 8-3 with a 2.29 ERA. Once the first-inning damage was done, the Dodgers barely got anything else going against him, with only one baserunner reaching past second base.
The outing was a sharp turn from Rodriguez’s earlier starts against Los Angeles this year. He threw five innings with one unearned run on March 28 and six innings with one run on June 1, but both times he was left with a no-decision.
This time, Arizona’s lineup made sure he didn’t leave empty-handed. Tim Tawa went 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs, while Gabriel Moreno added a single and drove in two. Moreno also stretched his on-base streak to 30 consecutive starts.
The Diamondbacks also took advantage of a rough night for the Dodgers defense, which was charged with three throwing errors, two wild pitches and a balk.
With Ohtani scratched from his mound start and Los Angeles forced into a bullpen game, Arizona kept pressing. The D-backs scored two runs in the first, fourth, fifth and sixth innings, building an 8-2 cushion by the time Rodriguez exited and locking up his first win of the season against the two-time defending champions.

Diamondbacks Just Made A First Round Pick Fans Will Debate
The Diamondbacks used their first-round pick on Ryder Helfrick, a catcher from Arkansas whose profile is built on defense first and upside behind the plate. In a draft class where opinions on him are all over the map, Helfrick has drawn praise for his glove, his arm and the kind of power that can make a catcher more than just a bat-control project.
Arizonas choice fits the kind of debate that tends to follow a first-round selection with a wide range of evaluations. Helfrick is viewed by some as one of the safer defensive bets at the position, but the questions about his contact ability and pitch recognition are real enough to keep the conversation going, especially for a club trying to balance present needs with long-term value. D-Backs Just Made A No. 15 Bet Fans Will Obsess Over
The Diamondbacks used the 15th pick in the 2026 MLB Draft to add another intriguing name to their catching pipeline, taking Arkansas backstop Ryder Helfrick. The right-handed hitter arrives with the kind of profile teams dream on at that position: real power, a reputation for handling the game behind the plate and enough polish to make him look like more than a long-term project.
Helfricks stock was built on more than tools. He tied for the Cape Cod League lead with 11 home runs in 2024, then kept producing for Arkansas while also handling a spotlight moment in the College World Series, when he was behind the plate for a no-hitter. Ranked among the top prospects in the class, he gives Arizona a player who could develop into a regular major league catcher, even if the final steps in that progression are still ahead. Diamondbacks Bring Back Kids Free Weekend For Arizona Families
The Diamondbacks are rolling out their annual Kids Free Weekend again, giving Arizona families another reason to circle a summer homestand at Chase Field. The promotion is set for the July 17-19 series against the St. Louis Cardinals and is designed to make the ballpark feel especially welcoming for younger fans, with the club continuing to lean into family-friendly experiences as part of its broader effort to build long-term connections.
Children 15 and younger can receive up to two free tickets with the purchase of an adult ticket, a straightforward offer that fits the teams push to keep baseball accessible. For the D-backs, it is about more than filling seats for one weekend - it is about getting kids through the gates, around the ballpark and into the habit of coming back. [Read more 🡒]
