Diamondbacks Pitchers Bratt and Drake Shine Alongside Former Trade Counterpart

Young pitchers Mitch Bratt and Kohl Drake seize their chance to impress at Diamondbacks camp, eager to prove their worth after last summers trade.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are getting a firsthand look at two promising left-handers, Mitch Bratt and Kohl Drake, who they acquired from the Rangers in last summer's Merrill Kelly trade. Over the weekend, both pitchers made their Major League Spring Training debuts, giving fans a glimpse of their potential.

Bratt, who was invited to his first Major League camp, opted to stay with the Diamondbacks rather than pitch for Team Canada in the World Baseball Classic. This decision highlights his commitment to making a strong impression with his new team. Although Bratt doesn't rely on a blazing fastball, his deceptive delivery keeps hitters guessing and adds an edge to his pitching.

Arizona's farm director, Chris Slivka, praised Bratt's fearless approach in the strike zone. Bratt's arsenal includes a four-seam fastball, cutter, changeup, sweeper, and curveball.

He's also working on a two-seamer and refining his changeup, which could make him a versatile weapon on the mound. Having reached Double-A with the Rangers, Bratt finished last season with Double-A Amarillo for the Diamondbacks.

Bratt expressed excitement about sharing a clubhouse with Merrill Kelly, the player he was traded for, and has been eager to learn from him.

Meanwhile, Kohl Drake, ranked as the Diamondbacks' No. 6 prospect, started against the Angels on Sunday. In his first big league game, Drake allowed one run over two innings, striking out two while walking two. Despite some initial nerves, he settled in quickly and used that adrenaline to his advantage.

Drake, who made it to Triple-A last year, is working on consistency with his cutter and developing a slider to better challenge left-handed hitters. His repertoire includes a four-seam fastball, cutter, and curveball, and he's eager to make an impact this season.

Both Bratt and Drake are showing promise, and their development will be intriguing to watch as they aim to solidify their roles with the Diamondbacks.
