The Diamondbacks kept clawing, and Ketel Marte’s bat gave them the opening they needed before Gabriel Moreno finished the job.
Arizona beat the Astros, 4-3, in 10 innings Saturday night at Daikin Park, collecting its 42nd come-from-behind win of the season. Moreno delivered the tie-breaking RBI single in the 10th, sending automatic runner Ildemaro Vargas home for the decisive run.
The winning rally started when Geraldo Perdomo bunted Vargas over to third to open the frame. Moreno then lined a single to center to break the deadlock.
Brandyn Garcia handled the rest. He struck out American League MVP favorite Yordan Alvarez, then got a foul pop from Isaac Paredes and finished it off by striking out Jose Altuve swinging for his fifth save of the season.
Arizona had already been forced to dig out of a hole twice. The Diamondbacks trailed for most of the night, but Marte changed the tone in the eighth inning with one swing.
Down 3-2, he turned on a sweeper and sent it a Statcast-projected 388 feet into the right-field seats for his 22nd homer of the year. Marte flipped his bat, beat his chest, and started the celebration.
Before that, Moreno had already helped keep Arizona in range. In the fifth, he drove in Tim Tawa with an RBI sacrifice fly to center to trim the deficit to 2-1. Houston answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning, then Lars Nootbaar pushed the Astros back in front in the seventh with an RBI double to the right-field corner that brought home Tawa and made it 3-2.
Jonathan Loáisiga kept the game tied heading into the late innings, working a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts to improve to 7-3 overall. From there, Arizona’s comeback kept rolling until Moreno delivered the final blow in the 10th.

He has also shown well against division leaders, which makes this matchup feel like a legitimate opportunity for Arizona to stop the bleeding. The question now is whether the bats can finally give him the kind of margin that has been missing throughout this stretch, or whether another good start ends up buried under the same lack of support.
