Alex Bregman’s free agency just got a little more interesting - the Arizona Diamondbacks have entered the chat.
According to reports, the D-backs are eyeing the two-time All-Star third baseman as a potential addition this offseason. It’s a move that makes sense on multiple levels.
Bregman has spent recent offseasons in Scottsdale, and with Arizona’s spring training facility also based there, the familiarity factor is already in play. But this isn’t just about geography - it’s about fit, flexibility, and what the Diamondbacks might be planning next.
One possibility? A shake-up involving Ketel Marte.
The All-Star second baseman has been a staple in Arizona’s lineup, but if the front office is looking to create some payroll space, moving Marte could be the lever they pull. That, in turn, could open the door for Bregman to slide into the infield mix.
Now, nothing’s imminent on that front. The Boston Red Sox have reportedly been pushing to acquire Marte, but talks haven’t gained serious traction just yet. Still, the interest is there - and if a deal does materialize, it could set off a chain reaction that brings Bregman to the desert.
Of course, Arizona isn’t alone in chasing Bregman. The Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Seattle Mariners, and Detroit Tigers have all been linked to the veteran third baseman this offseason.
That’s not surprising. Even in a slightly down year by his standards, Bregman still launched 18 home runs, drove in 62 runs, and posted a solid .821 OPS across 114 games in 2025.
He remains one of the more consistent and polished bats on the market - a player who can anchor a lineup and bring playoff experience to the clubhouse.
Bregman made headlines earlier this offseason when he opted out of the final two years and $80 million left on his deal - $40 million of that deferred - to re-enter free agency. That decision came after he inked a three-year, $120 million pact with Boston back in February. Now, less than a year later, he’s back on the market, and the suitors are lining up.
For Arizona, adding Bregman would be a bold move - one that signals they’re not content with last year’s progress and are looking to keep pace in a loaded National League. Whether that means moving Marte or finding another creative way to fit Bregman into the budget remains to be seen. But one thing’s clear: the D-backs are in the mix, and Bregman’s free agency just got a little more intriguing.
