Diamondbacks 2027 Schedule Sets Up An Early NL West Test

Get ready for the Arizona Diamondbacks' 2027 season as the newly released schedule reveals key home games and challenging early matchups that could set the tone for the year.

The Diamondbacks will open the 2027 season on the road, then bring the home crowd into the picture with a Friday, April 2 Home Opening Day against the Miami Marlins.

That game starts a six-game homestand at Chase Field, with Miami in town from April 2-4 and the Los Angeles Dodgers following from April 5-7. Arizona’s second homestand arrives a couple weeks later, running April 16-21 with three-game sets against the San Diego Padres and Chicago Cubs.

The home calendar has a few of the familiar dates fans circle right away. Mother’s Day Weekend brings the Texas Rangers to town from May 7-9, Father’s Day Weekend features the Boston Red Sox from June 18-20, and the 4th of July Weekend lines up with the San Francisco Giants from July 1-4.

The regular-season home schedule closes with a divisional finish that should have plenty of bite: the Padres from Sept. 21-23 and the Dodgers from Sept. 24-26.

Arizona’s first games of 2027 come on the road, with a week of division play to start things off against the Padres from March 25-28 and the Giants from March 29-31. The rest of the NL West road slate includes trips to the Dodgers from May 24-26, the Rockies from June 21-23, the Padres from August 9-11 and the Rockies again from August 20-22.

The road schedule ends with a seven-game trip against the Giants from Sept. 13-15 and the Dodgers from Sept. 16-19.

Beyond the division, the Diamondbacks’ road itinerary includes visits to the Yankees from April 9-11, Phillies from April 23-26, Braves from May 14-16, Brewers from May 28-30, Blue Jays from June 8-10, White Sox from July 9-11 and Cubs from August 16-18.

Looking at the full slate, it’s easy to see why early guesses about schedule difficulty can be shaky. The current season offered a reminder of that, with an early calendar that was widely viewed as brutal before the Tigers, Mets, Orioles and Blue Jays turned out to be less daunting than expected. Arizona went 9-3 against those clubs.

Still, based on the standings now, the opening stretch in 2027 could be a tricky one. There’s a 12-game run that includes the Marlins, Dodgers, Yankees and then the Marlins again.

That’s followed by 10 more games against the Padres, Cubs and Phillies. In all, 22 games are lined up against teams currently in the top eight of the MLB standings, with only three of those games coming against teams outside that group.

After that, the schedule doesn’t appear to stack up too many long stretches against winning teams. And if Arizona does have Corbin Burnes back as the Opening Day starter, that would be a notable development - though that remains to be seen.

Diamondbacks Lose Tommy Troy At A Brutal Time In Wild Card Race

Tommy Troys absence arrives at an awkward moment for a Diamondbacks club trying to steady itself in the Wild Card race. Arizona put the rookie outfielder on the 10-day injured list retroactive to July 12, and the move adds another layer of uncertainty to a roster that has already been juggling health issues in the pitching staff.

The Diamondbacks have not announced a corresponding roster move yet, leaving the immediate outfield picture a little murky as the second half begins. With Ryne Nelson, Zac Gallen and Michael Soroka also working through injuries, the strain on the roster is becoming hard to ignore, and general manager Mike Hazen has already addressed the broader situation as Arizona tries to keep pace. Diamondbacks Just Made A Troubling Pavin Smith Decision

Pavin Smiths season took another hit this week when the Diamondbacks pushed him through waivers and sent the first baseman outright to Triple-A Reno. It is the kind of move that says plenty about where Arizona sees him right now, even if the club is still leaving the door open for a reset rather than a full breakup.

Smith does have the option to elect free agency, but he is expected to accept the assignment and head to Reno as the Diamondbacks try to help him rediscover the form that has been missing since his return from left elbow inflammation. Arizona has been getting by with Tim Tawa at first base most days, but with the club still hanging around the playoff race, the position could become a real issue if Smith does not turn things around quickly. Diamondbacks Turn Back To Tyler Locklear At A Brutal Time

The Diamondbacks are turning back to Tyler Locklear at a time when they need answers more than ever, recalling the first baseman from Reno after a strong run in Triple-A. Acquired from the Mariners last year in the Eugenio Surez deal, Locklear has been productive this season, hitting .313 with eight home runs and 37 RBIs, enough to put him back in the mix as Arizona works through a string of injuries.

For Locklear, the move marks a second chance to show he can help at the big-league level after his season was cut short in 2025. He has done his part in Reno, and now the Diamondbacks will see whether that bat can carry over when the roster is stretched thin and every healthy option matters a little more. [Read more 🡒]
