Arizona Diamondbacks fans had plenty to vent about after Tuesday’s loss to the Philadelphia Phillies, and much of the frustration circled back to Corbin Carroll.
The D-backs dropped the three-game series, and Carroll’s night at the plate only deepened the concern. He went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, adding another rough performance to a stretch that has become hard to ignore. For a team still chasing a National League wild-card spot, every quiet night from one of its biggest bats carries real weight.
The larger issue isn’t Carroll’s season as a whole. It’s what he’s done over the last 15 games.
During that span, he’s batting .189 with 10 hits, a home run, four RBIs and seven runs scored, according to StatMuse. That slump has landed at the worst possible time, with Arizona needing production and Tuesday’s loss leaving the club no closer to the final wild-card position.

Then came the update that gave Carroll’s slump a little more context. According to Diamondbacks on SI’s Jack Sommers, Torey Lovullo said after the game that Carroll is dealing with lower back discomfort. Lovullo expects him to be in the lineup for Wednesday’s series finale, though there’s no indication the issue is affecting his swing.
That’s where the unease comes from for fans. Carroll has spent plenty of nights bailing out Arizona with his speed, power and all-around impact, but right now the worry is bigger than a bad week at the plate. It’s about whether he can get healthy, find his timing and help push the Diamondbacks toward October.
