The Athletics took another hit on Tuesday, and this one came with a brutal bit of injury news for one of their hottest bats.
Joshua Kuroda-Grauer was placed on the 10-day IL after undergoing surgery for a ruptured testicle, the team announced. The move came after an ugly foul-ball injury in Monday night’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the A’s also said infielder Max Muncy was called up from Triple-A to take his place.
Kuroda-Grauer’s injury happened in the fifth inning against Arizona, when Diamondbacks pitcher Mitch Bratt came in up-and-in. Kuroda-Grauer swung hard and fouled the ball straight into his groin area, then dropped to the ground and stayed hunched over as trainers rushed out. Even with what followed, he remained in the game and later got a hit off Bratt.

The 23-year-old’s status now looks open-ended. He’s on the 10-day IL for now, but the surgery makes it clear the A’s aren’t working with a clean timetable yet, and the expectation is that he’ll be out indefinitely.
That’s a tough blow for an offense that has at least shown some life while the rest of the season has gone sideways. Kuroda-Grauer has been one of the bright spots since his June call-up from Triple-A, batting .417 (25-for-60) over 16 games and carrying an OPS north of 1.000.
There’s a real chance the rookie has already played his final game of the 2026 season.
Tuesday’s injury update also included pitcher Mark Leiter, who was placed on the 15-day IL with a right hip impingement.
