The Utah Mammoth didn’t just make noise on July 1. They made a statement.
By landing Vincent Trocheck and Anders Lee, Utah added two proven veterans who both arrived with the same basic read on the team: this group can win. That was the pull for each of them, and it was the thread running through both of their introductions.
Trocheck, who was traded to Utah on July 1, said the fit came down to the Mammoth’s trajectory. He had previously been on the team’s no-trade list, but that changed after this past season, and Utah ended up being the destination.
His view of the roster was straightforward: "They're a very good young team. And I think for me, one of the biggest things is just going to a team that has a chance to win."
He didn’t stop there. Trocheck added, "Every year you go into training camp, your goal is to win the Stanley Cup.
There are no moral victories." That kind of line tells you exactly what Utah is buying: a player who expects to be in the fight, not just around it.
As a Ranger, Trocheck saw the Mammoth up close twice, and both meetings ended in 3-2 Utah wins, including one in overtime.
Lee’s reasoning sounded just as familiar, even if his path was different. The former Islanders captain said, "As an opposing player the last few years, you can tell every year, they're taking a step."
He also pointed to what Utah showed last season: "You can see on their run last year and in the playoffs that their window is coming and it's open. That was a big part of the fit for me, wanting to come to a team that has an opportunity to win."
That’s the big takeaway here. Utah didn’t just add names.
It added experience, leadership, and players who believe the Mammoth are moving into real contention. The roster already had youth and talent.
Now it has more of the kind of presence that can help turn promise into something bigger.
