The Utah Mammoth are trying to put a rough night behind them as they close out a five-game road trip against the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night.
Utah comes in at 3-2-0 after a 6-1 loss on Thursday that looked bad on the scoreboard and on the stat sheet. The Mammoth still managed to outshoot their opponent 37-22, but the result never really matched the shot count.
Now the focus shifts to Buffalo, where Utah will try to steady itself and clean up a few obvious problems. The matchup is set for Oct. 10 at 5:00 p.m. MT and will be available on ESPN+, Hulu, and Disney+.
The big issue for Utah on Thursday was everything happening around the net. With Sebastian Cossa in goal, Boston pounced early and kept the pressure on. Utah ended up pulling its goalie after allowing three goals in the second period, and even after Karel Vejmelka entered, the Bruins still scored three more in that same frame.
The goaltending was not good, but the defense didn’t give the netminders much help. Utah gave up too many clean looks and let Boston dictate the game far too easily. By the time the second period began, the Mammoth were already in a tough spot.
That’s what makes tonight such an important response game. Buffalo is another team that can hurt you offensively, so Utah can’t afford another sloppy defensive showing. The Mammoth need a sharper effort in front of Vejmelka and a much tighter game overall if they want to finish the trip on a high note.
A win would give Utah three victories in five road games, which would be a strong way to wrap up the trip after Thursday’s collapse.
Prediction: Utah gets the response it needs and comes away with a 3-2 win.

Utah Suddenly Has A Problem It Can't Hide On This Road Trip
Five games in eight nights has a way of exposing a team, and the Utah Mammoth are finding that out the hard way on this road trip. A 6-1 loss to the Boston Bruins left them with little room to hide, even with Jack McBain breaking through for Utah's lone goal off assists from Dmitri Simashev and Barrett Hayton. The margin was ugly enough on its own, but the way the night unfolded made it feel even more sobering for a group trying to keep pace through a grueling stretch.
Afterward, head coach Andr Tourigny and captain Clayton Keller both pointed to the same broad problem areas, with special teams and goaltending changes front and center in the discussion. For Utah, the concern is not just one bad result but what it suggests about how thin the margin can get when the schedule tightens and the execution slips. The Mammoth still have time to steady things on the trip, but this was the kind of game that tends to linger until the next puck drop. [Read more 🡒]
