The Utah Mammoth’s jersey swap from the Stanley Cup Playoffs has now come full circle.
During the first round, owner Ryan Smith had fans turn in Vegas Golden Knight jerseys in exchange for Mammoth jerseys, a move aimed at helping build Utah’s fanbase and create a bigger playoff atmosphere. The idea drew plenty of attention, especially with Utah having been a strong market for the Golden Knights before the state moved on from the Arizona Coyotes era.
Now the Mammoth and VGK have revealed where those surrendered jerseys ended up: they were donated to the Vegas Golden Knights Foundation.
The HELP of Southern Nevada thanked both the Utah Mammoth and the Vegas Golden Knights Foundation for donating jerseys and making many happy Golden Knights fans. It was a gesture that showed some respect still exists between the two sides, even after Utah made a clear push to win over fans in its new hockey market.
The playoff setting gave the move even more visibility. The Mammoth won two of the first three games in the series before dropping the next three and losing the series, but the jersey exchange was one of the most memorable parts of the run. Smith’s decision, and the donation that followed, gave Utah another way to connect with fans while also keeping the gesture pointed in a positive direction.
For a franchise still trying to grow its audience, moves like this matter. The Mammoth are working to establish themselves as a major hockey draw in Utah, and this was a notable example of how they’re trying to do it.
