Roadrunners Fans Finally Have A Rare Opening Night To Circle

Prepare for an electrifying start to the 2026-27 season as the Tucson Roadrunners face the Colorado Eagles at home for the first time since 2018-19.

The Tucson Roadrunners will begin the 2026-27 season in front of their own crowd, hosting the Colorado Eagles on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. local time at Tucson Arena.

That opener gives Tucson the first of 36 regular-season home dates in the Old Pueblo, and it comes with a little bit of franchise history attached. The Roadrunners have only opened a season at home twice before, and the last time was 2018-19.

Fans won’t have to wait until later this summer to lock in a seat for Opening Night. Single-game tickets for all 2026-27 home games are set to go on sale later this summer, but the team said a limited number of Opening Night side tickets will be available for $30 during the Roadrunners’ National Hot Dog Day Celebration on July 15 at Barrio Brewing Co.

Tucson has handled home openers well over the years, entering the new season with a 6-4-0-0 all-time record in those games. The club is also 7-3-0-0 in season openers and is looking for its first straight run of home-opening wins since back-to-back victories in 2022-23 and 2021-22. The Roadrunners have won three of their last five home openers and seven of their last eight season openers.

Colorado will be a familiar opponent, but this will be a first in one important way: it will be the first time Tucson has hosted the Eagles in a home opener. It’s only the second time the teams have met to start a season, with the previous matchup coming in the 2024-25 opener at Blue Arena.

The all-time series has leaned Colorado’s way. Tucson is 22-30-5-3 against the Eagles overall and 10-15-3-3 at home since Colorado became the Avalanche’s AHL affiliate in 2018-19. Last season, the Roadrunners went 3-3-2-0 against the Eagles and 1-2-1-0 at home.

The two teams arrive at this matchup from different places in the standings. Tucson finished eighth in the Pacific Division in 2025-26 at 34-28-10-0 for 78 points, while Colorado ended up second at 41-20-6-5 with 93 points. The Eagles also come in off a run to the Western Conference Finals of the Calder Cup Playoffs, where they reached that stage for the first time in franchise history before losing to the Chicago Wolves in Game 7.

The Roadrunners’ 2026-27 season will be carried on FOX Sports 1450 AM and the iHeartRadio app, with AHLTV on FloHockey also listed as a way to follow the club.

Ducks Suddenly Face The Young Core Crisis Fans Feared

Anaheims young-core picture changed fast during the first round of the 2026 NHL draft, and not in the tidy, patient way rebuilding teams usually hope for. The Ducks already had to absorb the shock of moving Mason McTavish, a move that signaled just how aggressively the organization is willing to reshape its future, and now the front office is staring at another major decision involving the next wave of talent.

Leo Carlssons situation puts the Ducks in a familiar but uncomfortable spot: keep a franchise center in place and keep building around him, or let the market set the terms and collect a hefty draft return. Either way, the cap math is getting tighter, and the ripple effects could reach Cutter Gauthier as well, leaving Anaheim to sort out whether it can realistically hold on to both of its most important young pieces without compromising the rest of the roster. Former Coyotes Defenseman Suddenly Framed As A Major Blue Line Fix

The Rangers have spent the summer trying to patch up a blue line that needed more stability behind Adam Fox and Vladislav Gavrikov, and the front office has responded with a pair of moves aimed squarely at the second pairing. Sean Durzi and Marcus Pettersson are the latest additions, giving New York a different look on defense as it tries to rebound from last season and build a back end that can hold up over a full year.

Durzi arrives with some offensive touch and Pettersson brings a more steady, stay-at-home profile, which gives the Rangers options they did not have before. The bigger question now is how the pieces fit together, especially since one of those additions came as part of the Vincent Trocheck deal and the other came via a separate trade, leaving the team with a reshaped defense and a few decisions still to sort out before opening night. Roadrunners Add Another Crease Question Fans Will Want To Track

The Tucson Roadrunners have added another name to the mix in goal, bringing in Jesper Vikman on an AHL contract as they continue sorting out the crease picture for the season ahead. Vikman has spent the past few years moving between the AHL and ECHL, and his path to Tucson has included junior hockey with the Vancouver Giants in the WHL before turning pro.

For Roadrunners fans, the move is less about one signing than about how the goaltending depth chart might settle over time. Vikman was originally drafted by the Vegas Golden Knights in 2020, and his experience in multiple pro leagues gives Tucson another option to monitor as the affiliate of the Utah Mammoth keeps building out its roster.
