The Arizona Cardinals are making strategic moves to bolster their running back depth, signing Tyler Allgeier to a two-year contract worth $12.25 million. This deal includes $8 million in guaranteed money, with a $5.5 million signing bonus, a $1.5 million base salary in 2026, and $1 million of his $5.05 million base salary in 2027. Allgeier also has the opportunity to earn an additional $2 million in incentives each season.
Adding to the perks, Allgeier's contract features $100,000 offseason workout bonuses annually. This savvy signing results in a $4.35 million salary-cap hit this year, which will rise to $7.9 million in 2027.
With the contracts and cap hits for players like Allgeier, defensive lineman Roy Lopez ($4.39 million), wide receiver Kendrick Bourne ($4.78 million), and tackle/guard Matt Pryor ($1.263 million), the Cardinals strategically adjusted their cap space. Four smaller cap charges-$1.005 million, $1.017 million, $1.039 million, and $1.048 million-were moved out of the top 51, which counts against the cap until the regular season kicks off.
The total cap charges for these new additions amount to $14.783 million, but with the adjustments, the net addition to the cap is $10.674 million.
In other roster management news, the Cardinals are expected to finalize contract restructures for running back James Conner and cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting, reducing their cap figures from $9.83 million and $9.245 million, respectively. New deals are also anticipated for guard Isaac Seumalo, punter Blake Gillikin, and quarterback Gardner Minshew.
Currently, Overthecap.com lists the Cardinals’ cap space at $36.678 million, with an effective space of $25.154 million, accounting for the team’s projected rookie pool for upcoming draft picks.
