The Arizona Cardinals are making a move to shore up their cornerback room, agreeing to add D’Shawn Jamison to their practice squad, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
Jamison was in for a workout with the team today before the deal got done, per the NFL’s transaction wire. Arizona entered the day with only five cornerbacks on its active roster, and that depth chart took another hit when starting cornerback Will Johnson went down with what head coach Mike LaFleur called a "lower body injury" to reporters. There’s still no timetable for Johnson’s return.
Jamison comes in with a background built largely on special teams work. The 5-10, 185-pound defensive back turned 27 in June and entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2023 after five years at Texas.
He first signed with the San Francisco 49ers that summer, but they waived him before final roster cuts. Carolina claimed him the next day, and he went on to appear in 15 games for the Panthers with one start.
Most of that run came on special teams, where he played 39% of the snaps. Ahead of 2024 roster cuts, the Panthers waived him, and he eventually landed with Pittsburgh. Jamison stayed on the Steelers’ practice squad through the last two years and appeared in three games last season, with every snap coming on special teams.
He was waived by Pittsburgh this past weekend as part of final roster cuts.
There’s also a familiar connection waiting for him in Arizona. Senior defensive assistant Teryl Austin spent recent years as the Steelers’ defensive coordinator, and that relationship likely helped Jamison end up with the Cardinals.
Arizona has just over ten days before its regular season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers. The team did not claim anyone off waivers after setting its initial 53-man roster.
