The Seahawks’ Week 2 injury picture opened with the most important name on the list: Sam Darnold won’t play Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.
Head coach Mike Macdonald said Wednesday that Darnold, who injured his glute on the first possession of Seattle’s season opener against the New England Patriots, is out. Drew Lock will start at quarterback.
“We don't anticipate putting him on IR or anything like that, but we'll just kind of reevaluate every day, reevaluate next week, and we'll go from there.” Macdonald said.
He added, “He's killing it on his rehab, he's doing a great job. He's doing a lot right now; he's just not going to be able to play this week.”
Seattle’s first practice report of the week also listed safety Ty Okada as a non-participant with a hamstring issue. Okada was inactive in Week 1, and Macdonald said he “has a chance to play this week.”
Two other Seahawks who did not play against the Patriots - safety Nick Emmanwori and wide receiver Tory Horton - were full participants Wednesday. Macdonald said, “Those guys are doing great. They're going to practice today, and we'll go from there.”
The rest of Seattle’s Wednesday report was straightforward, with starters marked by an asterisk.

Jeremiyah Love Just Gave Cardinals Fans Another Reason To Hate Sunday's Rival
Ahead of Sundays matchup, Jeremiyah Love found himself in an unusual spot for a young Cardinals back, talking about a friend while helping prepare for a rival. Love and Seahawks running back Jadarian Price were teammates at Notre Dame, and Love said he has been passing along what he knows about Prices style as Arizona gets ready for a division game that already carries enough edge.
Love made clear where his loyalty sits, even with the friendship intact. He said he is excited for the challenge of competing against Price and for catching up afterward, but for Cardinals fans the part that matters most is simpler: one of their own is trying to make sure the defense has every possible clue before Sunday. Jeremiyah Loves Ankle Puts Cardinals Fans On Edge Before Seattle
Jeremiyah Love gave the Cardinals a welcome sign in the middle of a short week, saying his ankle does not feel limited as Arizona turns from its season-opening win over the Chargers to a Week 2 trip to Seattle. The rookie running back looked plenty capable in his debut, finishing with 41 rushing yards and a touchdown, and he quickly became part of the story as the Cardinals tried to settle into their next-round prep.
For a team that already has one win banked, Loves availability matters because Arizonas offense could use the same spark it got from him against Los Angeles. The Seahawks will be a different test, and the Cardinals will be watching closely to see whether the rookie can carry that debut momentum into a division game, with his ankle still the one detail hanging over the buildup. Cardinals Get An Early Reality Check Against A Rival They Need To Solve
The Cardinals get an early look at one of the leagues most stubborn problems Sunday, and it comes against a Seahawks team that has turned this NFC West series into a long-running headache. Seattle brings an 11-game winning streak into the matchup, including nine straight over Arizona in the division rivalry, a reminder that the bar in the West is still set by a team the Cardinals have not solved in a while.
There is reason to think Arizona is at least heading in a better direction under new coach Mike LaFleur after last weeks 26-14 win over the Chargers, a result that suggested the group is no longer carrying the same weight it did a year ago. But Seattle has been winning in different ways, too, including a close call against the Patriots without starting quarterback Sam Darnold, which only adds to the challenge for a Cardinals team trying to show its progress is more than a good one-week answer.
