If the latest reports hold true, the Seattle Seahawks could be preparing to say goodbye to offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak - and sooner rather than later.
Kubiak, who’s drawn consistent buzz in this hiring cycle, is now firmly in the mix for not just one, but two head coaching jobs. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Kubiak is expected to land either the Las Vegas Raiders or Arizona Cardinals gig, with second interviews lined up with both organizations this weekend. Schefter didn’t mince words on The Pat McAfee Show, saying flat-out: “He’s definitely getting one of those jobs.”
That’s a tough pill to swallow for Seahawks fans who were holding out hope that Kubiak might stick around. When several head coaching vacancies were filled over the past few weeks without Kubiak’s name being called, it looked like Seattle might get another year with their offensive play-caller. But both the Raiders and Cardinals have remained in the picture - and now it seems one of them is ready to make a move.
NFL insider Tony Pauline recently weighed in, suggesting that while Kubiak is less likely to land in Arizona, the Raiders are very much in play, giving them a 60-40 edge. And it’s not hard to see why. Las Vegas offers a more attractive situation on paper - better personnel and more cap flexibility, which could give Kubiak more tools to work with out of the gate.
For Seattle, the timing couldn’t be trickier. With the Super Bowl just days away, the team’s focus is still on the big stage, but behind the scenes, they may already be preparing to re-enter the offensive coordinator market. If Kubiak does indeed take one of these head coaching roles, it would mark a significant shift for the Seahawks’ offensive identity heading into next season.
Kubiak’s potential departure would leave a noticeable void. His work with the Seahawks offense this season has been praised for its creativity and balance, and he’s widely viewed as one of the league’s rising minds on that side of the ball. Now, it looks like that mind is headed for a bigger stage - and Seattle will have to pivot quickly once the Super Bowl confetti settles.
