BJ Ojulari has already landed another shot.
A few weeks after the Arizona Cardinals moved on from the outside linebacker ahead of the regular season, the Jacksonville Jaguars are signing Ojulari, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. Ojulari is still only 24 and came into the league as a second-round pick in 2023 out of LSU.
That draft pedigree is part of why he drew attention in Arizona in the first place. The Cardinals liked his length and believed he could grow into a real edge threat after a productive college run. His rookie year gave them a glimpse of that upside, too, as Ojulari finished with four sacks and looked like a player who could take a big step in year two.
Instead, a severe knee injury in training camp changed everything. Ojulari missed the entire 2024 season and the first half of 2025 before finally getting back on the field. In eight games last year, he posted one sack, three quarterback hits and nine tackles.
This summer was supposed to answer a simple question: what would Ojulari look like once he was healthy again? The Cardinals got that answer in camp and the preseason, and it wasn’t enough to secure a spot. Ojulari never made much of an imprint in a crowded edge group, and his extended preseason run suggested Arizona was already leaning elsewhere.
That proved accurate when undrafted outside linebacker Eku Leota beat him out for the final 53-man roster spot, leaving Ojulari on the outside looking in.
"We made a decision based on what we felt was best, and I feel for BJ," Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur told reporters after roster cuts.
"If you guys saw the work that he put in behind the scenes to try to get back to the level that he knows he's capable of, you'd root for him too. And his journey and his story is not over. But that was a rough injury that he went through, and in my six months here, however long I've been, all I saw was a guy that had his shoulders up and his head held high, and he just attacked it."
Now Ojulari gets another chance in Jacksonville, where the Jaguars also have former Cardinals linebacker Dennis Gardeck in the room. The move also comes after edge rusher BJ Green left Week 1 with an elbow injury, which likely opened the door for Jacksonville to make the addition.

During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, LaFleur praised Trey McBrides mental and physical toughness, his ball skills and the way he leads, painting a picture of a tight end who already does plenty of heavy lifting for Arizona and still has more room to grow.
LaFleur went a step further by comparing McBrides ability to control the pace of a play to Luka Doncic, which is rare company for any pass catcher. The bigger takeaway for the Cardinals is what came next: LaFleur said McBride is still improving, a reminder that Arizona may be watching its top tight end enter the kind of stretch where the ceiling keeps creeping higher.
