Cowboys Passing Plan Just Got More Complicated For The Cardinals

George Pickens is set to suit up against the Cardinals, but fantasy managers should weigh his potential against injury concerns before making lineup decisions.

George Pickens is expected to be out there for the Cowboys on Sunday, and fantasy managers can plan on using him against the Cardinals - with one caveat: the hamstring.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday morning that Pickens is expected to suit up after being limited in all three practices this week because of shoulder and hamstring injuries. Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer also said Friday that he expects Pickens to play.

The questionable tag came from the hamstring, which was added to the report this week. Pickens had already been dealing with a shoulder issue since Oct. 22, and he played through it in Dallas’ Oct. 26 win at Philadelphia without a game designation. Schottenheimer didn’t sound overly concerned Friday, saying, “I think we’re pretty healthy.”

Dallas did rule out linebacker Dee Winters and returner KaVontae Turpin, but Pickens, rookie safety Caleb Downs and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams are all expected to play after limited weeks.

For fantasy purposes, the bigger question is how much he’ll be on the field. Pickens played 41 snaps against the Eagles while the Cowboys leaned heavily on the run, finishing with 38 carries for 204 yards. Even in that reduced passing environment, he still produced four catches on six targets for 57 yards and a one-handed, toe-tap touchdown before halftime.

That workload could shift again depending on game flow. If Dallas gets ahead early, the Cowboys may lean even harder into the ground game and trim the passing volume.

Pickens has been productive when healthy enough to stay involved. He has 37 catches for 485 yards and two touchdowns, trailing only CeeDee Lamb’s 651 receiving yards on the team. Before last week’s run-heavy script, he had topped 73 receiving yards in four straight games.

There’s also the blocking piece. Before the Eagles game, Schottenheimer said Pickens “needs to understand that he impacts us in the running game as well.” Against Philadelphia, Pickens logged 13 run-blocking snaps, the fewest among Cowboys receivers who played on offense.

This matchup should tilt Dallas back toward the air. The 2-5 Cardinals are coming off a game in which Jacoby Brissett threw 48 passes in a 30-16 loss to Denver, and Trey McBride caught 10 passes for 111 yards. That sets up a friendlier passing environment than the one Dallas faced in Philadelphia.

Start Pickens in fantasy once the Cowboys confirm he’s active about 90 minutes before kickoff. He carries some early-exit risk because of the hamstring, but the upside is strong enough to keep him in lineups.

Should you start Pickens on your fantasy football team? Absolutely. He’s a low WR1 against the Cardinals, just outside the top 10 at his position.

Lamb remains the safest Dallas receiver option after catching five of 12 targets for 74 yards and two touchdowns against the Eagles. Ryan Flournoy also flashed with four catches for 70 yards, and he would be in line for more snaps if Pickens is limited.

At tight end, Jake Ferguson was held without a catch on his lone target last week, while Luke Schoonmaker had to test a groin injury Friday before Dallas finalized its tight end plan.

It’s a favorable fantasy setup across the board, including Dak Prescott, who threw three touchdown passes at Philadelphia. The Cardinals visit the Cowboys at 1 p.m. ET at AT&T Stadium.

Gardner Minshew May Have Changed Everything For The Cardinals

A late quarterback switch gave Arizona exactly the kind of spark it had been searching for, and Gardner Minshew made the most of the opportunity against Dallas. After replacing Jacoby Brissett late in the third quarter, Minshew settled the offense and helped the Cardinals claw back into a game that looked headed the wrong way, finishing 15 of 20 with three touchdowns in a performance that immediately changed the tone around the sideline.

The comeback only got better from there, with Arizona's defense forcing a three-and-out in overtime before Chad Ryland delivered the winning field goal to seal a 3-5 record. However the Cardinals sort out the quarterback picture from here, Minshew's outing gave them a live option and a much-needed reminder that the offense can still find another gear when the moment gets tight. Bills Face A Trade Deadline Debate Over One Proven Pass Rusher

The NFL trade deadline has already started to stir movement around the league, and the Arizona Cardinals have found themselves in the middle of the conversation because of Josh Sweat. After recent deals involving the Colts and Titans, the market for edge help is getting harder to ignore, and Sweats name has surfaced as one of the more intriguing possibilities thanks to his proven pass-rushing track record and the need he could fill for a contender looking to shore up its defense.

Buffalo is among the teams being discussed as a fit, with the Bills facing the kind of debate that comes with weighing short-term help against future value. Sweats recent production and injury status add another layer to the discussion, and while there is plenty of interest being floated around him, nothing has been settled yet. For Arizona, it leaves open an important question at the deadline: whether to cash in on a veteran defender now or hold onto a player who could still matter in the stretch run. [Read more 🡒]

Jeremiyah Loves Return Leaves One Big Cardinals Question

Jeremiyah Love is back in the mix for Arizona just in time for a road matchup with the Cowboys, giving the Cardinals another piece in a backfield that has already leaned on him heavily in his first season. The rookie running back has missed the last two games while nursing an ankle injury, but his return adds some needed stability to an offense that has seen him handle a sizable role and work nearly half of the teams offensive snaps this year.

Loves availability also brings the focus back to how Arizona wants to manage him moving forward after he tried to push through the issue earlier in the season. The Cardinals have been careful enough to let him heal, and now the next question is how much they can ask of him right away, especially with the expectation that he will share the workload once he is back on the field.
