Carson Beck’s first NFL preseason outing came with plenty of nerves the night before and plenty of production once the whistle blew.
The Arizona Cardinals quarterback helped make Thursday’s Hall of Fame Game a tight one, even though the Cardinals came out on the wrong end of a 33-30 loss to the Carolina Panthers at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. Beck handled the moment well for a rookie making his debut, finishing 15-of-19 for 188 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions.

After the game, though, it was clear the emotional part of the night had hit him harder than the football. His voice cracked several times in the postgame conference as he talked through what the moment meant, and he admitted he had been restless long before kickoff.
“Shoot, from the time you cross the white lines and you're out there on the first play, I was ready to roll,” said the No. 65 pick in the video posted by PHNX Cardinals.
“Since last night, when I was lying in bed, I could barely sleep. I was just thinking about having an opportunity to play football again. Never taking it for granted.”
Beck, 24, said his outlook has changed after spending eight months sidelined by an elbow injury in 2025.
“Ever since I had the injury, the surgery, and had to get my UCL repaired and everything, I'm having gratitude for the game and every opportunity that I get. It's just something I've really found faith in,” shared the two-time national champion.
Beck led Miami to the title game in January, and with the Cardinals, he is expected to sit behind Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew II.
Arizona’s next preseason game is Thursday against the Las Vegas Raiders.
