Cardinals Win Looks Even Better After What Followed For Dallas

In a costly defeat to the Cardinals, the NFL takes action against three Cowboys players for troubling on-field behavior that contributed to their overtime loss.

The NFL handed down fines to three Cowboys players after Dallas’ 33-30 overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals, adding another layer to a rough Sunday for a team already dealing with the sting of defeat.

DeMarvion Overshown, Rashan Gary and P.J. Locke were all docked for hits in the game, according to the league’s Week 8 accountability report released Saturday.

Overshown was fined $9,528 for unnecessary roughness after using his helmet on a second-quarter play that left Cardinals running back Bam Knight concussed. Knight was ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

That hit immediately sparked talk of whether Overshown might face a suspension, but the league stopped at a fine.

Gary’s penalty was the biggest of the three at $17,911. The 2024 Pro Bowler was fined for a fourth-quarter hit on Gardner Minshew involving contact to the head or neck. On the play, Gary clearly headbutted Minshew as he came in on the quarterback, drawing a penalty on the field as well.

A fan posted a clip of the play and the reaction online turned sharp fast.

"Gary has been a sore thumb all year. not really sure why he is still here," one commenter replied.

Another suggested, "Jimmy Johnson would have cut him for that. That clears up a lot of [expletive] plays."

"Undisciplined front office leads to undisciplined coaching, which leads to undisciplined play on the field. It’s not hard," someone wrote.

Locke took the largest fine of the trio, getting hit for $19,444 after an overtime play in which he lowered his helmet and made helmet-to-helmet contact with Cardinals running back Tyler Allgeier. The first-year Cowboys safety was shaken up and shown on the sideline after the collision.

The Cowboys’ discipline issues have shown up in the numbers, too. According to StatMuse, they rank 10th in the NFL with 60 penalties this season.

Even so, Arizona actually drew more flags in the game itself, finishing with nine penalties for 77 yards compared with Dallas’ seven for 45. But the Cowboys still came out of the night with a loss, three fines and another frustrating result as they try to keep pace in the NFC East.

Dallas now heads to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET looking to put the overtime defeat behind them.

Broncos Interest In Trey McBride Just Put Cardinals On The Spot

The trade deadline chatter around Trey McBride has only sharpened the spotlight on what he means to Arizona. Denver has been looking for more juice at tight end, with Evan Engrams contract set to expire after the season, and McBrides rise has made him exactly the kind of player other teams would at least call about. For the Cardinals, it is another reminder that one of their most valuable pieces has become a leaguewide talking point.

McBride has been central to Arizonas passing game this year, and interest from a contender only underscores how hard he would be to replace. The Cardinals have already made their stance clear by turning away Denvers inquiry, but the attention around him figures to linger as the deadline approaches and teams keep searching for impact help. Cardinals Get An O-Line Boost At A Critical Time

The Cardinals are getting some timely help up front for their Week 9 matchup with the Seahawks, with offensive guard Isaiah Adams set to come off injured reserve after missing time with an ankle injury. Arizona has been searching for stability along the offensive line, and Adams return gives the group a needed boost as the game week ramps up.

The roster moves did not stop there, either. Tight end Shawn Bowman and running back Jerome Ford were also elevated from the practice squad for the game, giving Arizona a little extra depth as it heads into a division test that could demand flexibility on both sides of the ball. [Read more 🡒]

Cardinals Face One Big Test After Their Quarterback Shakeup

The quarterback switch in Arizona has already changed the feel around the offense, and now the Cardinals have to show whether it can hold up against a tougher test. Gardner Minshew gives them a different look than Carson Brissett did, and the early returns have been encouraging for a team trying to steady itself through injuries and the usual growing pains of a first-year head coach.

Week 9 against Seattle now looms as the real measuring stick. The Seahawks bring a defense that can force an offense to earn everything, and the way they game plan for Minshew will say plenty about where Arizona stands after the shakeup. The Cardinals have found a little momentum, but this matchup will go a long way toward showing whether it is real. [Read more 🡒]
