Cardinals Win Had Cowboys Calling Out Their Own Defense

Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown doesn't hold back in his criticism of the Dallas Cowboys' defense after they allowed a shocking comeback by the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cowboys had a game in hand and let it slip away.

Dallas blew leads of 17-3 and 24-10 before falling 33-30 in overtime to an Arizona Cardinals team that had already turned to backup quarterback Gardner Minshew II after benching Jacoby Brissett on Sunday afternoon. The loss dropped the Cowboys to 3-5, and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown didn’t hide his frustration with how the defense finished the game.

“You have a great second half versus [the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 26], and you have a great first half in this game, so you think you're on the right track, and then you crap the bed the second half," Overshown said, per Patrik Walker of the Cowboys' website. "I don't know.

We have to see what exactly went wrong, but it's just - it can't happen. It just can't happen."

The collapse was especially jarring because Dallas gave up 23 points from the start of the fourth quarter through overtime. Overshown said the defense simply didn’t do enough to get Arizona off the field.

"We just didn't find a way to get off the field as a defense, and gave up too many explosive plays," Overshown said. "We already know that if you give up explosive plays, teams find ways to score the ball, so we gotta be better, man. We've just gotta be better."

He pointed to the missed chance after Dallas had built a 17-3 cushion.

"I really don't know what happened in the second half," Overshown added. "We weren't tackling great and, like I said, giving up explosives is stuff you can't do.

We were up 17-3, and you gotta hone in at that point. That's the time to choke them out as we want, but you can't let an NFL team play and keep close in any game.

We already know how these games are. They're never over until the fourth quarter.

It's a lesson we've got to learn, and we're tired of learning this lesson, but it was another lesson we got to learn."

After the game, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said he was not considering coaching changes. There was no indication Monday morning that head coach Brian Schottenheimer was planning to move on from first-year defensive coordinator Christian Parker, though Parker’s future could come under more pressure if the defense struggles again against the Indianapolis Colts on Nov. 8.

That matchup comes against a 2-6 Colts team that was blown out 42-7 by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

Dallas enters the week trailing only the 4-2-1 New York Giants in the NFC East, a position that could influence Jones if he decides the Cowboys need defensive help before the Nov. 10 NFL trade deadline. If no outside help arrives, Overshown made clear the players inside the locker room know they have to fix it themselves.

As of Monday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook listed the Cowboys as six-point road favorites against the Colts.

Cardinals Beat Cowboys But Suddenly Face A Brutal Injury Problem

The Cardinals got the kind of win that can steady a season, edging the Cowboys in overtime, but the mood in the aftermath was tempered by a long injury list that kept growing as the game wore on. Arizona was already navigating a physical night, and by the time it was over the team was dealing with issues across multiple position groups, from the backfield to the offensive line to the receiving corps.

Mike LaFleur said some of the injuries could cost players multiple weeks, and some could linger even longer, which is the bigger concern for a team trying to build on a hard-fought road win. Jeremiyah Love, Kendrick Bourne, Bam Knight, Jayden Williams, Reggie Virgil and Michael Wilson all came out of the game hurt in different ways, leaving the Cardinals with a victory on the scoreboard and a much murkier outlook heading into the next stretch. Budda Baker Trade Buzz Puts Cardinals Fans On Edge

Trade chatter around Budda Baker has put a familiar Cardinals storyline back in the spotlight as the November 10 deadline approaches. The longtime safety and captain remains one of the most recognizable faces on the roster, and the idea of Arizona even entertaining offers for him has naturally grabbed attention because of what he means to the defense and to the franchises identity.

The speculation comes at a time when the Cardinals are widely expected to be active sellers, with other players potentially on the move as the deadline nears. Baker has already acknowledged the business side of the NFL, which is why the rumor mill has felt especially uneasy for fans, even if there is still a strong sense around the league that this is a situation worth watching rather than assuming it will end with a deal. Cardinals Just Created A Trade Deadline Situation Fans Need To Watch

Arizonas quarterback picture took a notable turn in Week 8 when the Cardinals moved from Jacoby Brissett to Gardner Minshew, a change that could signal more than just a short-term adjustment. With the trade deadline nearing, the timing has naturally pushed Brissett into the rumor mill, especially for a team that may be looking at its depth chart a little differently after the switch.

One team to watch is Baltimore, where quarterback injuries have created an obvious need and made the market for a veteran passer more interesting. Brissett has become a name worth monitoring because of that fit, but for now it remains exactly that - speculation, with no deal confirmed and the Cardinals still sorting out what their own quarterback room looks like moving forward.
