Cardinals Welcome Back Marvin Harrison Jr But Something Still Feels Off

Marvin Harrison Jr. is back on the field in Week 16, but early signs suggest his return might be more subdued than expected.

The Arizona Cardinals are getting a key piece of their offense back on the field in Week 16, as rookie wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. returns to action against the Atlanta Falcons. After missing four of the last five games-two due to a heel injury and two more following an appendectomy-Harrison is suited up and active. But if you were expecting fireworks right out of the gate, you might want to pump the brakes.

Harrison’s return has been a quiet one so far, and there’s a reason for that. While he’s healthy enough to play, the Cardinals are clearly easing him back into the mix.

Through Arizona’s early possessions, quarterback Jacoby Brissett hasn’t looked his way yet. In fact, the entire passing game has been slow to get going-Brissett completed just one pass on the opening drive, and the Cardinals haven’t found much rhythm through the air.

That’s not entirely surprising. Coming off multiple injuries in a short span, Harrison was expected to be on a pitch count of sorts. The Cardinals aren’t going to risk further setbacks with their prized rookie wideout, especially in a season where long-term development is just as important as short-term results.

Harrison’s presence alone is a boost for Arizona’s offense, even if he’s not filling up the stat sheet right away. His ability to stretch the field and command attention from defenders changes the way opposing secondaries have to play. And as he works his way back to full speed, his impact should only grow.

For now, though, the Cardinals are playing it smart. Harrison is back on the field, which is a win in itself. But don’t be surprised if his return is more of a slow burn than an instant spark.
