Cardinals Tryout Move Could Signal Help At A Position Of Need

The Arizona Cardinals are strategically evaluating new talent to bolster their roster and prepare for potential injuries, with a specific focus on offensive guard Jamaree Salyer and quarterback Conner Bazelak.

The Arizona Cardinals took a closer look at eight players on Tuesday, and the workout group was heavy on position-specific depth.

The most notable name on the list was offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer, who stands out as a likely candidate for either the active roster or the practice squad. The rest of the group lined up with the Cardinals’ need to take a fresh look at receivers, a quarterback, and linebacker options.

Conner Bazelak was among the quarterbacks brought in. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound passer spent six years in college because of the pandemic, moving through Missouri, Indiana and finally Bowling Green for his last two seasons.

He made 53 college starts and finished with 12,349 passing yards, 66 touchdowns and 39 interceptions. Bazelak went undrafted last year, spent time on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ practice squad, and was cut on final day this year.

Salyer, listed at 6-foot-4 and 335 pounds, played in 47 games over four seasons at Georgia and started full time in each of his last two years. He was part of the Bulldogs’ 2021 National Championship team before the Los Angeles Chargers drafted him in the sixth round in 2022.

Since then, he has appeared in 64 NFL games with 40 starts for LA, then signed with the Miami Dolphins this spring before being released during final cuts in August. He could be an answer after the Cardinals lost OG Matt Pryor.

Arizona also brought in linebackers Bradyn Swinson and Riley Wilson. Swinson, a 6-foot-4, 255-pounder out of Oregon and LSU, was a fifth-round pick of the New England Patriots in 2025 and saw most of his action on special teams. Wilson, who measured 6-foot-1 and 226 pounds, went undrafted out of Arizona this year, signed with the Patriots, was released, landed on their practice squad and then was waived on September 29.

The receiver group included Joaquin Davis, Courtney Jackson, Shedrick Jackson and Dayton Wade. Davis, a 6-foot-4, 194-pound product of North Carolina Central, went undrafted in 2026, signed with the Minnesota Vikings and has not appeared in an NFL game.

Courtney Jackson, listed at 5-foot-11 and 195 pounds, went undrafted in 2025 out of Arkansas State, signed with the Denver Broncos and also has not played in an NFL game. Shedrick Jackson, listed at 6’-198 pounds and an Auburn product, went undrafted in 2023, signed with the Cincinnati Bengals and has played in 10 NFL games.

Marvin Harrison Jr. Trade Just Reignited A Cardinals Value Debate

Marvin Harrison Jr.s move out of Arizona did more than change the Cardinals receiver room - it reopened a familiar front-office question about what the market really looks like for a talented player when production has been uneven. Around the league, multiple teams had come to believe Harrisons trade value had slipped because of inconsistent performance, which made his availability notable even before any deal was finalized.

The Kansas City Chiefs were among the clubs watching the wider receiver market, especially with injuries hitting Tyquan Thornton and Rashee Rice, but they never seriously moved on Harrison. Instead, Houston stepped in and made the deal with Arizona, sending second- and sixth-round picks to the Cardinals and getting Harrison plus a 2027 seventh-round pick back, a return that now sits at the center of the value debate. Marvin Harrison Jr. Has Cardinals Fans Watching One Painful Texans Storyline

Marvin Harrison Jr. is already back in the AFC South spotlight, and this time the conversation around him has shifted from Arizona to Houston. The former Cardinals wide receiver was dealt to the Texans in a move that sent future draft capital back to Arizona, giving Houston a proven playmaker and giving Cardinals fans another reminder of how quickly a roster can change around a young receiver.

DeMeco Ryans said Harrison will be on the field Sunday against the Jaguars, setting up an immediate reunion with former college quarterback C.J. Stroud. For Arizona, it is the kind of transaction that lingers beyond the transaction itself, because the value of moving a talent like Harrison is not measured only by what comes back right away, but by what those future picks can turn into later. Cardinals Trade Call Is Raising A New Question About Their Offense

The Cardinals latest roster move has sparked a familiar kind of second-guessing, the sort that follows any decision involving a young quarterback and a playmaker who already knows the building. Former general manager Steve Keim suggested Arizona might have paused before sending Rondale Moore to the Houston Texans, arguing the team needed more time to evaluate how its pieces fit together before moving on from a receiver who could have been part of a developing offensive core.

The broader question now is how the Cardinals want to handle rookie quarterback Carson Beck as they sort through the offenses next phase. Head coach Mike LaFleur said there will be discussions about moving Beck to the active roster, which only adds to the sense that Arizona is still deciding how aggressively to lean into youth, chemistry and long-term upside as it reshapes the group around him.
