The Arizona Cardinals are searching for help up front, and they may have found a veteran option worth bringing into the mix.
Arizona is hosting free agent offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer for a visit, according to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler. Salyer has recovered from the knee issue that led to his August scope, and Fowler reported he is “healthy now” and “will likely sign in coming weeks.” Fowler also noted that Salyer can line up at tackle or guard and has 40 career starts.
The timing makes sense for the Cardinals, who have been hit hard along the offensive line. Paris Johnson Jr. is out for the season, Isaiah Adams landed on injured reserve last week, and second-round pick Chase Bisontis was also lost in preseason play. That leaves Arizona trying to patch together answers with a unit that has already taken multiple blows.
In Week 5’s loss to the Detroit Lions, the Cardinals turned to seventh-round rookie Jayden Williams at left tackle and Jon Gaines at right guard. Offensively, the biggest issue was the run game, and Mike LaFleur made that clear after the game.
“Not bad. Against a pretty good front.
We were mixing and matching where 97 (Lions Edge Aidan Hutchinson) was trying to get some ribs and licks and trying to help those guys, but I thought for the most part they did a fairly good job. Obviously, we threw the ball way too much because of how that game got out of hand and trying to establish a run game.
If you guys want me to be candid, that’s really where I want to see us improve more," he said.
"That was going to be a hard game running the football, but we’re better than that. There were more yards out there than what was had.
Some of it was them swimming our blocks and our double teams, but other times there was some space and we just weren’t taking up that space. We have to put them in better positions, but there’s more to be had in the run game.”
LaFleur also pointed to the pass protection issues, saying the backs had to lend more support on the edges than he’d like. That meant more chip help instead of relying on Jeremiyah Love as a receiver out of the backfield.
“Just helping out with those edges and stuff like that. I mean they have a pretty premier player so even if we’re in a six-man protection with the back, if they’re not bringing a linebacker, we still work at what you’d call a shave technique on their edge guys where you’re helping those tackles," he added.
"That’s not just our tackles; that’s all the tackles I’ve ever been a part of. You don’t want to put those guys on islands anywhere I’ve ever been too often.”
Salyer’s path to this point has been a little unusual. He was initially thought to be out for the season after signing with the Miami Dolphins this summer, but he was released and now seems to be healthy again. For a Cardinals team trying to stabilize its front, the visit comes at exactly the right time.

Cardinals May Be Closer To A QB Decision Than Fans Realize
Carson Beck has been around the Cardinals quarterback room this season as the emergency third option, but his presence is starting to feel a little less ceremonial. Rookie or not, the third-round pick out of Miami has been kept close enough to the action that his status is worth watching, especially with Arizona looking for the cleanest way to navigate the position behind the starter.
Mike LaFleur said Gardner Minshew is still the backup, but he also left the door open for a change if the team decides it gives them the best chance to win on Sunday. The Cardinals are expected to revisit the discussion soon, which means Becks role could move from emergency insurance to something more meaningful before long. [Read more 🡒]
Cardinals Problems Just Got Bigger Than One QB Debate
The quarterback talk around the Cardinals has been easy to grab onto after another loss, but Mike LaFleur pushed back on the idea that one position is driving everything. He said the team is not weighing a change under center, and framed the recent skid as a wider issue than Jacoby Brissett alone, a notable stance for a team trying to steady itself in a crowded NFC race.
LaFleurs comments matter because they shift the conversation away from an easy fix and toward the harder questions Arizona still has to answer elsewhere on the roster. The Cardinals have now lost enough ground that every mistake feels magnified, and if Brissett is not the problem in LaFleurs view, then the pressure only grows on the rest of the offense to show where the turnaround is supposed to come from. Rams Suddenly Have An O-Line Issue Cardinals Fans Need To Watch
The Rams offensive line is suddenly worth a closer look for Cardinals fans, not because of something that happened between the whistles, but because of what came after Buffalos overtime win. Los Angeles left tackle Alaric Jackson got into trouble during the postgame jersey exchange period, adding an off-field complication to a unit Arizona may end up tracking closely as the season moves forward.
For now, the league has not announced any discipline, leaving Jacksons status unresolved and the Rams waiting for clarity on a player who protects the blind side. Bradley Chubb downplayed the incident and said he wasnt looking to escalate it, but the episode still put an unwelcome spotlight on a key spot along the Rams front and created another item for Arizona to monitor in a divisional race where every little advantage matters.
