The Arizona Cardinals added two more names to the roster on Tuesday, filling the openings they created a day earlier after clearing out four players and bringing in two replacements. This time, the moves brought in punter Jack Browning and safety Josh Minkins.
Browning’s path back to Arizona has been a little circuitous. He had tryouts with the Cardinals before training camp opened and again last October, and now he’s back to handle the kicking duties with Blake Gillikin sidelined by a groin injury. Browning will punt this week during the team’s joint practice with the Green Bay Packers and again in Friday’s preseason finale against Green Bay.
In 2024, Browning handled punting and kickoff duties for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers over five games. He also most recently played in the UFL for the Orlando Storm, where he averaged 48.5 yards per punt and had 11 punts downed inside the 20 in 11 games.
Minkins arrives with some game experience of his own from the UFL. He also played for the Orlando Storm, appearing in seven games and recording 32 total tackles, three pass breakups and one fumble recovery.
The Cardinals needed the extra safety help heading into Friday. Dadrion Taylor-Demerson has a rib injury, while Budda Baker, Andrew Wingard and Kitan Crawford likely will not play.
That leaves Minkins in a group with Isaiah Oliver, Wydett Williams, Devyn Bobby and Hudson Clark to help get through the preseason finale. Williams was examined for a concussion on Saturday, so he might be in protocol.
