The Arizona Cardinals made a pair of tough roster moves on Sunday, placing safety Joey Blount and tight end Kenny Yeboah on injured reserve.
For Blount, it’s another cruel turn in a career built on making the most of every snap. He was never just a third- or fourth-string name on a depth chart; he carved out real value on special teams, where he was viewed as a demon.
A fan favorite, Blount made a habit of tracking down returners and finishing the play. He also brings 38 NFL games of experience, along with 20 total tackles and two forced fumbles.
This injury, like the one that ended his season in Week 1 last year, is to his neck.
Yeboah’s path was supposed to look different. Signed in free agency, the five-year veteran was brought in to provide experience and step into the TE3 role.
His calling card was clear: strong blocking, enough receiving ability to snag a pass here and there, and the kind of physical presence that could work as an extension of the offensive line. But his Cardinals stint has been derailed before it really got started, and he’s now on IR as well.
Yeboah spent four seasons with the New York Jets, then was injured in training camp last year while with the Detroit Lions and ended up on IR, missing all of 2025.
The only route back for either player this season would be to sit out the entire year, reach an injury settlement, be released, and then re-signed. Both have now dealt with back-to-back training camp injuries and missed two straight seasons.
Arizona moved quickly to fill the roster spots, signing tight end Shawn Bowman and linebacker Eugene Asante.
Bowman comes in at 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds. He played at Rutgers, earned Third Team All-CAA honors and a spot on the 2024 Hampshire Honor Society, and entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2024.
After being waived during final cuts, he landed on the Jaguars’ practice squad. This spring, he suited up for the Orlando Storm in the UFL and caught seven passes for 53 yards.
His arrival matters because the Cardinals suddenly need more bodies at tight end, especially with Yeboah out and lingering issues around Tip Reiman.
Asante, listed at 6-foot-0 and 218 pounds, was a fifth-year senior at North Carolina and Auburn because of the pandemic. He went undrafted in 2025, signed with the Miami Dolphins, and was injured in training camp before receiving an injury settlement.
The Cleveland Browns added him in mid-October and placed him on their practice squad, but he was released two months later. Two weeks after that, the Atlanta Falcons signed him to their practice squad.
