The Cardinals may not be in any hurry to make a move, but Gardner Minshew’s name is already floating around the trade conversation.
Arizona sits in an awkward spot with three healthy quarterbacks, and that alone has fueled the speculation. Jacoby Brissett is holding down the starting job, veteran Gardner Minshew is backing him up, and rookie Carson Beck is also on the roster. With the season only in Week 4 and the trade deadline still set for Tuesday, November 10 at 4:00 pm (Eastern), there’s no rush - but that hasn’t stopped the chatter.
The latest buzz comes from NFL Insider Jason La Canfora of Casino.org, who called Minshew the most obvious quarterback available for a team in need. His view is that Minshew can provide short-term help for a club that suddenly lost its starter or had to move its backup into a bigger role. As La Canfora put it:
“(Minshew) can give you some energy and run around and make some things happen for a few weeks until he hits the wall. There will be turnovers, but he is game and will move the pocket and try to compete.”
La Canfora also said an NFL GM told him Minshew will be gone by the deadline.
That idea makes sense on the surface for a team dealing with quarterback trouble, but it raises a real question for Arizona: what exactly would the Cardinals be giving up?
Minshew is on a $5.75 million deal, which makes him cheap insurance as a backup. If Brissett were to get hurt, Arizona would suddenly be leaning on a veteran who has 63 NFL games and 47 starts on his résumé. That kind of experience matters, especially when the alternative is rookie Carson Beck.
And Beck, for all the intrigue, is still extremely untested. He looked great in the Hall of Fame Game, but then injured his rib and was taken off the practice list until he healed.
He has appeared in one game, and that was an exhibition against the other team’s #2 defense. That’s a very different challenge than what comes next.
Brissett, meanwhile, has been a steady hand, though the numbers have shifted. Before the Giants game, he was ranked #17 in total passing yards with 652, #6 in attempts with 117, #64 in yards per attempt at 5.6, and tied for sixth in touchdown passes with four against one interception. After the 36-24 loss to the New York Football Giants, he’s now at #20, and the biggest change is in the turnover column, which went from one interception to four.
The Cardinals are also staring at a familiar possibility: if Brissett keeps struggling, Minshew could matter more to Arizona as a quarterback option than as a trade chip. That’s the tension here. A fifth-round pick would be a modest return, and the team would be left with a rookie backup who has not played a regular-season snap.
That’s why moving Minshew would be a real gamble. Arizona does not have to help another team solve its quarterback problem, and it may prefer to keep the experienced insurance policy right where he is.
At some point, Beck will need live reps during a stretch of games so the Cardinals can find out what they have before next year’s NFL Draft. But for now, the idea of shipping out the only other proven quarterback on the roster for a late-round pick is not exactly an obvious win.

Marvin Harrison Jr. Trade Talk Is Putting Cardinals Fans On Edge
Rumors around Marvin Harrison Jr. have quickly become the kind that can rattle a fan base, especially when a player with his profile is involved. For Cardinals supporters, the noise is coming from outside the building, with Indianapolis reportedly showing interest and a wider list of suitors also said to be monitoring the situation, including the Chiefs, Raiders, Bills, Giants and Texans.
The Colts interest carries extra intrigue because their ability to put together a deal is constrained by limited draft capital after past trades, which makes any real movement harder to engineer. Even so, the fact that Harrisons name is circulating at all is enough to keep Arizona followers on edge, and it leaves one of the leagues most closely watched wideout stories hanging in a tense spot. Cardinals Catch Lions Defense At A Tense Time
A rough afternoon in Carolina only added to the scrutiny around the Lions, and head coach Dan Campbell wasted little time addressing where things stand on defense. He confirmed that Kelvin Sheppard will stay on as defensive coordinator, while also making clear the unit is still a work in progress and that the staff is looking for ways to give other players a chance to help improve the performance.
For the Cardinals, that makes this a familiar kind of opponent-facing wrinkle to monitor, especially when a contender is trying to steady itself without overreacting to one bad result. Campbells message was less about a quick fix than a broader standard, with mediocrity off the table and improvement needed across every phase, which leaves Detroit carrying both the urgency and the uncertainty into the next stretch. Jeremiyah Love's Hot Start Comes With One Big Cardinals Question
Dane Brugler of The Athletic put together an early 2026 NFL All-Rookie Team after the first four games of the season, and it was enough to get Arizona rookie running back Jeremiyah Love some well-earned attention. Love was listed as the starting running back on the team, a nod to the way he has opened his pro career by leading all rookies in rushing yards and receptions out of the backfield.
For the Cardinals, the praise is encouraging but still comes with a reminder of how quickly these early-season judgments can shift. Bruglers list is built on a small sample, and Loves start has certainly been loud, but the bigger question is how long he can keep this pace going once defenses adjust and the season settles into its grind.
