Cardinals May Be Closer To A QB Decision Than Fans Realize

Amid a rocky season, the Arizona Cardinals are contemplating a shake-up in their quarterback lineup that could see rookie Carson Beck stepping into a more prominent role.

Carson Beck may be inching closer to a real role in Arizona.

The Cardinals’ third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft has spent every game this season as the emergency third quarterback, but that setup could be in for a change after a rough start for the team. Arizona was blown out by the Detroit Lions in Week 5 and sits at 1-4, leaving the club searching for answers and, maybe, a reason to try something different.

Head coach Mike LaFleur said the team could discuss elevating Beck if it gives Arizona its best chance to win.

“Right now, Gardner (Minshew) is our backup. But if we feel like (Beck being available is) going to give us our best chance to be successful on Sunday, then we’ll certainly have those discussions,” LaFleur said on Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo radio show. “Obviously, he wasn’t yesterday, but that doesn’t mean moving forward he won’t be.”

“We haven’t had those discussions. We’ll have that discussion tomorrow at about noon,” the Cardinals coach continued.

Beck is in his first NFL season after his final college year with the Miami Hurricanes, where he helped lead Miami to the National Championship Game. The Hurricanes fell to the Indiana Hoosiers, who won their first National Championship in football.

For a Cardinals team off to a 1-4 start, the timing makes sense. If Arizona is headed for another lost season, getting a look at Beck could be the kind of move that matters later, especially if he’s part of the long-term picture.

Cardinals Just Made A Marvin Harrison Jr. Decision Fans Cant Ignore

The Cardinals moved on from Marvin Harrison Jr. in a deal with Houston, a jolt of a decision involving one of the most recognizable young names on the roster. In return, Arizona added draft capital, including a second-round pick and a sixth-rounder, while sending a seventh-rounder back to the Texans, a swap that immediately shifted the conversation from potential to what comes next.

Head coach Mike LaFleur framed the move as one made in the best interest of the club, and he also took responsibility for Harrisons performance while in Arizona. LaFleur stopped short of getting into Harrisons side of the story or the finer points of the trade, leaving the most important part of the fallout still hanging as the Cardinals try to explain what this means for their future. Cardinals Face Another Michael Bidwill Fight Fans Wont Ignore

Another legal fight is circling the Cardinals, this one carrying the kind of baggage that can linger well beyond the courthouse. The dispute stems from claims of racial discrimination, retaliation, defamation and constructive termination, and it lands at a time when any new off-field controversy around team ownership is bound to draw attention from fans who have seen plenty of turbulence already.

What makes the case especially notable is the NFLs familiar arbitration path, which can send disputes away from a public courtroom and into a league-controlled process. In this instance, the case was moved out of federal court and into arbitration, adding another layer to the long-running debate over how much transparency players and employees actually get when those clauses are invoked. Cardinals Crisis Is Putting Two Big Plans Under The Microscope

The Cardinals have reached a point in the season where every loss seems to drag a bigger question with it. At 1-4, they are trying to steady a roster that has been giving up points in bunches while also dealing with a quarterback situation that has not offered much traction, all as they head toward a matchup with the Los Angeles Rams.

Jacoby Brissett remains at the center of the conversation, because the offense has not done enough to ease the pressure on a defense that keeps getting pushed around. With quarterback changes and defensive fixes both now under the microscope, Arizona is facing the kind of week that can either clarify the plan or make the uncertainty around it even louder.
