The Arizona Cardinals have made a clear call on one of their most dependable pieces up front, agreeing to a two-year, $20 million extension with center Hjalte Froholdt.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the deal keeps Froholdt in Arizona through the 2028 season. Rapoport wrote, “Sources: The Cardinals and C Hjalte Froholdt have agreed to terms on a 2-year, $20M contract extension, keeping him in the fold through the 2028 season,” and added, “One of their most consistent [performers] and anchors of their O-line gets rewarded.”
For the Cardinals, it’s another move that preserves continuity during the rebuild. Froholdt has been one of the most stable presences on the roster, and the team is banking on that reliability to continue.
The 30-year-old center is entering his seventh NFL season and his fourth with Arizona. Since arriving in 2023, he has played every game without missing a single contest. Before becoming a fixture in the Cardinals’ lineup, Froholdt spent his first years as a backup with the New England Patriots and also had two seasons with the Cleveland Browns.
The contract is a solid payday, but it does not put Froholdt among the NFL’s highest-paid centers. His $10 million average annually is well short of the top of the market. Tyler Linderbaum is averaging $27 million a year in his deal with the Las Vegas Raiders, while Creed Humphrey’s contract with the Kansas City Chiefs comes in at $18 million per season.
With the center spot settled for the next few years, Arizona can move on to the next task on its list. The Cardinals will open the 2026-27 season on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1 on September 13.
