The Cardinals’ first injury report of the week brought a mixed bag, and the biggest new name on it is quarterback Jacoby Brissett.
Brissett showed up with a hip injury as Arizona opened prep Wednesday for Sunday’s game in San Francisco. There was no mention of the issue after Sunday’s game or in the media sessions Monday and Wednesday before practice, though analyst Mark Schlereth said during the second half of the TV broadcast that Brissett appeared to be moving gingerly and might have something going on.
Arizona also made a roster move tied to the secondary. Cornerback Will Johnson was placed on injured reserve after suffering a neck injury against the Seahawks, and he is expected to miss the rest of the season.
In his place, the Cardinals signed Starling Thomas V from the practice squad. Thomas missed the 2025 season with a torn ACL.
Right guard Isaiah Adams is not on the report. That’s notable because he did not practice leading into Week 1 and was limited last week, yet he played all 50 snaps against Seattle.
The Cardinals listed six players as did not participate on Wednesday:
NT Roy Lopez (groin)
CB Max Melton (toe)
LG Isaac Seumalo (not injury related/rest)
OLB Josh Sweat (not injury related/rest)
S Dadrion Taylor-Demerson (back)
Lopez played last Sunday even while dealing with the injury in practice last week. Melton was limited last week with an ankle injury before leaving the Seahawks game with the toe issue.
Seumalo had a shoulder injury last week but still played all 50 snaps against Seattle. Taylor-Demerson also played Sunday after recovering from rib injuries, but now he is dealing with a back issue.
The report also included center Will Froholdt and wide receiver Xavier Weaver as limited, along with center Hjalte Froholdt, receiver Xavier Weaver, and receiver Zay Jones? Wait, no - the source lists only the following players after the did-not-participate group: center Hjalte Froholdt, WR Xavier Weaver, WR Zay Jones, and QB Jacoby Brissett.
Froholdt’s injury timing is unclear, with no indication whether it happened in the Seattle game or during Wednesday’s practice. Williams has missed the first two games while continuing to recover from the Achilles injury he suffered last December, and with Johnson out, his return could come sooner.
Wilson hurt his thumb during Sunday’s game but missed only five snaps.
For San Francisco, the Wednesday injury report listed:
DE Nick Bosa (not injury related/knee)
WR Mike Evans (hip)
LB Dre Greenlaw (not injury related/rest/Achilles)
DE Romello Height (hand)
RB Christian McCaffrey (not injury related/rest)
WR Demarcus Robinson (ankle)
DT James Thompson Jr. (ankle)
LT Trent Williams (not injury related/rest)

Nick Bosa Suddenly Looms Over Cardinals In A Different Way
Nick Bosas week took an unexpected turn when the 49ers edge rusher sat out a second straight practice because of a calf issue, adding another layer to the ongoing management of his surgically repaired right knee. The uncertainty comes with San Francisco preparing for its next game against the Cardinals, and Bosas status has quickly become one of the biggest watch points on the injury report.
For Arizona, the situation matters even before a final update is released. Bosa has played in two games this season without recording a sack, but his presence still changes how offenses have to prepare for San Francisco, and the 49ers defense is clearly feeling the weight of his availability. Until the team provides more clarity, the Cardinals have reason to keep an eye on a matchup that could look very different depending on how Bosa responds over the next few days. [Read more 🡒]
Cardinals Just Created A Real QB Watch Behind Jacoby Brissett
Practice on Wednesday offered a notable twist for the Cardinals, as rookie quarterback Carson Beck was seen working with the first-team offense and throwing to Marvin Harrison Jr. and Trey McBride. The added reps come at a time when the quarterback room is under more scrutiny than usual, with Jacoby Brissett coming off an underwhelming performance in the previous game.
No official change has been announced, but the Cardinals approach suggests Beck is being prepared as a real option if the need arises. For a team trying to steady its offense, getting a rookie more integrated with the starters now is the kind of move that can signal caution without saying anything outright. [Read more 🡒]
Cardinals Already Face A Bigger QB Question Than Fans Wanted
The quarterback conversation around Arizona has already turned uneasy again, and its only early in the 2026 NFL season. With the leagues latest QB power ranking factoring in injuries and shifting roles across the board, the Cardinals are part of the picture for the wrong reasons, thanks to Jacoby Brissetts rough stretch at the position. Arizona had hoped for steadier play to open the year, but the early returns have only sharpened the scrutiny on the offense.
Around the league, the ripple effects have been impossible to miss. Jaxson Dart is done for the Giants, Jameis Winston has taken over there, Kyler Murray has come back from a concussion for the Vikings, and Michael Penix Jr. has given the Falcons a more encouraging first look. For the Cardinals, though, the question is less about whats happening elsewhere and more about how long they can wait for the quarterback situation to stabilize. [Read more 🡒]
