Cardinals GM Stuns Fans With Bold Kyler Murray Statement

Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort's conflicting statements about Kyler Murray's future raise questions as the team navigates a potential split during a turbulent offseason.

The Arizona Cardinals and their star quarterback, Kyler Murray, might be heading for a split this offseason. The situation between Murray and the team has grown tense, largely due to his injury troubles and the arrival of new head coach Mike LaFleur, who could be eager to start fresh with his own choice at quarterback.

The decision on whether the Cardinals will trade or release Murray remains uncertain. However, it seems Murray is in the loop regarding his future. General Manager Monti Ossenfort mentioned during the NFL Combine that he’s been in communication with Murray about the team's direction.

“I've always maintained a solid dialogue with Kyler,” Ossenfort shared. “Last season didn’t meet Kyler’s expectations, nor did it meet ours as a team. With the year we had, there’s a lot of room for growth, and we’re focused on improving across all positions.”

Yet, there’s a twist in the tale. ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss reported a conflicting story, suggesting that there hasn’t been any contact between Ossenfort and Murray since the season wrapped up.

Murray, now 28, was limited to just five games this past season due to a foot injury. Over his seven seasons with the Cardinals, he’s amassed 20,460 passing yards, 121 touchdowns, and 60 interceptions, boasting a 92.2 passer rating. His mobility has also been a significant asset, with 3,193 rushing yards and 32 touchdowns, earning him two Pro Bowl selections.

Considering Murray’s hefty $52.6 million cap hit, the Cardinals might face challenges in securing a favorable trade deal.
