The Arizona Cardinals are not blinking on Jacoby Brissett, even after a three-interception outing in New York and a 1-3 start that has pushed quarterback chatter into the foreground.
Head coach Mike LaFleur made it clear ahead of Week 5 against the Detroit Lions that the team is staying locked in on this week rather than entertaining a change under center. When asked what it would take for a quarterback switch, LaFleur pointed straight back to the task at hand.
“I’m just focused on this week and trying to be as good as we can be. Again, we were 12 feet away from scoring 30 but we didn’t and we lost. We have to improve from it and work to be 1-0 this week," he said.
Brissett’s early-season production has been underwhelming, and last week’s three-pick performance only sharpened the scrutiny from fans in Arizona who are already looking for a new answer at quarterback.
LaFleur walked through each interception and offered his read on how the mistakes happened. On the first, he said Brissett was trying to give Marvin Harrison Jr. a chance before getting his arm hit.
“The first one, he was trying to give (WR) ‘Marv’ (Marvin Harrison Jr.) a chance. We got a little bit ‘edged’ there and he got his arm hit," LaFleur said.
He then defended the second interception, which came on a batted ball, and said it was the kind of issue that can be addressed but not overdramatized.
"The second one - people are going to disagree with me on this one in terms of batted balls. If it’s an extreme issue throughout a course of 17 games or a couple of years, then yeah, I’d look at it.
I’ve been with an MVP quarterback who had a lot of batted balls in 2015 in (Former NFL QB) Matt Ryan. We did not know why.
Your only coaching tool for guys that are natural throwers is obviously the arm angle change and stuff like that. That’s like the no-crap statement.
"Then the other easy one (is) to tell the (offensive) line ‘Hey, we have to keep their arms down,’ but that’s kind of elementary coaching. There is something to be coached there at least.
That one was almost kind of like - man, we started out so good and then all of a sudden, we weren’t playing good. It was kind of the catalyst to all of it right there.
"The third one - it’s fourth and goal at the four (yard line). It was the last play, and he had to get the ball out of his hands. Again, I think we can provide better clarity to make sure that we’re not even in that situation.”
For now, the Cardinals are standing by Brissett, with rookie Carson Beck and veteran Gardner Minshew waiting behind him. But if the results keep going this way, the quarterback conversation in Arizona is starting to look less like a debate and more like a matter of time.

Marvin Harrison Jr. Trade Talk Is Putting Cardinals Fans On Edge
Rumors around Marvin Harrison Jr. have quickly become the kind that can rattle a fan base, especially when a player with his profile is involved. For Cardinals supporters, the noise is coming from outside the building, with Indianapolis reportedly showing interest and a wider list of suitors also said to be monitoring the situation, including the Chiefs, Raiders, Bills, Giants and Texans.
The Colts interest carries extra intrigue because their ability to put together a deal is constrained by limited draft capital after past trades, which makes any real movement harder to engineer. Even so, the fact that Harrisons name is circulating at all is enough to keep Arizona followers on edge, and it leaves one of the leagues most closely watched wideout stories hanging in a tense spot. Cardinals Catch Lions Defense At A Tense Time
A rough afternoon in Carolina only added to the scrutiny around the Lions, and head coach Dan Campbell wasted little time addressing where things stand on defense. He confirmed that Kelvin Sheppard will stay on as defensive coordinator, while also making clear the unit is still a work in progress and that the staff is looking for ways to give other players a chance to help improve the performance.
For the Cardinals, that makes this a familiar kind of opponent-facing wrinkle to monitor, especially when a contender is trying to steady itself without overreacting to one bad result. Campbells message was less about a quick fix than a broader standard, with mediocrity off the table and improvement needed across every phase, which leaves Detroit carrying both the urgency and the uncertainty into the next stretch. Jeremiyah Love's Hot Start Comes With One Big Cardinals Question
Dane Brugler of The Athletic put together an early 2026 NFL All-Rookie Team after the first four games of the season, and it was enough to get Arizona rookie running back Jeremiyah Love some well-earned attention. Love was listed as the starting running back on the team, a nod to the way he has opened his pro career by leading all rookies in rushing yards and receptions out of the backfield.
For the Cardinals, the praise is encouraging but still comes with a reminder of how quickly these early-season judgments can shift. Bruglers list is built on a small sample, and Loves start has certainly been loud, but the bigger question is how long he can keep this pace going once defenses adjust and the season settles into its grind.
