Cardinals Are Betting On A Veteran Tackle After Paris Johnson Jr. Shock

The Cardinals bolster their offensive line with seasoned tackle Jedrick Wills Jr., aiming to stabilize their roster after a key injury reshapes their season dynamics.

The Arizona Cardinals have moved quickly to patch a major hole after Paris Johnson Jr.’s season-ending bicep injury, adding another former first-round tackle to the mix.

Arizona is signing Buffalo Bills offensive tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. off Buffalo’s practice squad, according to reports. Wills, the 10th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, heads to the Cardinals after Johnson was lost for the season and placed on injured reserve today.

Wills is 27 and has spent five seasons in the NFL, beginning his career with the Cleveland Browns. He didn’t play at all in 2025 while rehabbing a knee injury that was diagnosed as an MCL sprain, though Wills explained earlier this offseason that the issue was more complicated than a simple knee repair.

“I injured a couple of ligaments, but usually when people like when they get fell on or something in their knee, they mess up all their ligaments and people can just go in and repair it and they get healthy," Wills said earlier this offseason after signing with the Chicago Bears before being released ahead of final roster cuts.

"I had minimal damage to my ligaments. It was more of an alignment issue from where I got fell on.

So they had to actually - it wasn't my knee, they had to go into my femur and do what was called an osteotomy to kind of correct my alignment. So my knee is healthy.”

Before landing in Buffalo, Wills also met with the New England Patriots and Detroit Lions this offseason. He signed with the Bears, then later joined the Bills’ practice squad ahead of the 2026 regular season.

Because the Cardinals are signing him directly off another team’s practice squad, Wills will be on Arizona’s 53-man roster for at least three weeks under NFL rules.

The move gives Arizona a proven tackle option with 58 games and 57 starts at left tackle on his résumé. Wills has played in just 17 games in one of his NFL seasons, but when he’s been healthy, he’s shown he can handle the job.

The Cardinals entered Week 5 at 1-3, and their tackle depth now includes seventh-round pick Jayden Williams behind him at left tackle and Josh Fryar on the right side of the line. Wills is widely considered a better pass protector than run blocker, which is exactly the kind of profile Arizona is banking on after losing Johnson.

Marvin Harrison Jr. Trade Talk Is Putting Cardinals Fans On Edge

Rumors around Marvin Harrison Jr. have quickly become the kind that can rattle a fan base, especially when a player with his profile is involved. For Cardinals supporters, the noise is coming from outside the building, with Indianapolis reportedly showing interest and a wider list of suitors also said to be monitoring the situation, including the Chiefs, Raiders, Bills, Giants and Texans.

The Colts interest carries extra intrigue because their ability to put together a deal is constrained by limited draft capital after past trades, which makes any real movement harder to engineer. Even so, the fact that Harrisons name is circulating at all is enough to keep Arizona followers on edge, and it leaves one of the leagues most closely watched wideout stories hanging in a tense spot. Cardinals Catch Lions Defense At A Tense Time

A rough afternoon in Carolina only added to the scrutiny around the Lions, and head coach Dan Campbell wasted little time addressing where things stand on defense. He confirmed that Kelvin Sheppard will stay on as defensive coordinator, while also making clear the unit is still a work in progress and that the staff is looking for ways to give other players a chance to help improve the performance.

For the Cardinals, that makes this a familiar kind of opponent-facing wrinkle to monitor, especially when a contender is trying to steady itself without overreacting to one bad result. Campbells message was less about a quick fix than a broader standard, with mediocrity off the table and improvement needed across every phase, which leaves Detroit carrying both the urgency and the uncertainty into the next stretch. Jeremiyah Love's Hot Start Comes With One Big Cardinals Question

Dane Brugler of The Athletic put together an early 2026 NFL All-Rookie Team after the first four games of the season, and it was enough to get Arizona rookie running back Jeremiyah Love some well-earned attention. Love was listed as the starting running back on the team, a nod to the way he has opened his pro career by leading all rookies in rushing yards and receptions out of the backfield.

For the Cardinals, the praise is encouraging but still comes with a reminder of how quickly these early-season judgments can shift. Bruglers list is built on a small sample, and Loves start has certainly been loud, but the bigger question is how long he can keep this pace going once defenses adjust and the season settles into its grind.
