The Broncos have been poking around the tight end market ahead of Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline, and one of the names they checked on was a big one: Arizona Cardinals star Trey McBride.
Denver is sitting alone in first place in the AFC West at 6-2, but the production from Evan Engram hasn’t matched the team’s spot in the standings. Through eight games, the starting tight end has 13 catches for 136 yards and one touchdown. He also came up empty in last week’s 28-24 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, finishing without a reception on three targets.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Saturday on X, formerly Twitter, that Denver had reached out about McBride as part of a trade-deadline update he co-wrote with Ian Rapoport.
McBride’s numbers explain why he would be such an attractive target. He leads the NFL with 66 receptions on 86 targets this season after earning first-team All-Pro honors in 2025. He also put together a strong showing against Denver in Week 7, catching 10 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown in the Broncos’ 30-16 win in Glendale.
There’s also the homecoming angle. McBride grew up in Fort Morgan as a Broncos fan and played at Colorado State, which would make a move to Denver especially notable.
Arizona, though, has shown it is willing to deal in the right situation without being eager to move McBride. The Cardinals already sent quarterback Jacoby Brissett to the Baltimore Ravens, a sign that their deadline approach depends on who’s involved.
The Denver Broncos have checked in around the league on tight ends, going so far as to ambitiously -- and some would say outrageously -- check on Cardinals star Trey McBride, who is from Fort Morgan, Colorado, and played at Colorado State. According to the report, Denver shifted its attention elsewhere after Arizona turned down the inquiry. The story does not say the teams discussed compensation or that the Broncos made an actual offer for McBride.
Engram’s contract runs out after this season, so the Broncos’ search for help at tight end carries both an immediate and longer-term angle as Tuesday’s November 10 deadline gets closer.

Cardinals Win Looks Even Better After What Followed For Dallas
The Cardinals overtime win over Dallas already carried plenty of weight in the standings and in the locker room, but the aftermath has only made it look more costly for the Cowboys. What followed was a wave of NFL discipline tied to the kind of sloppy, undisciplined play that can swing a tight game, and it added another layer to a loss Arizona had every reason to savor.
Three Cowboys players were fined for hits in that game, including helmet-to-helmet and unnecessary roughness violations that drew league attention after the fact. One of those plays left Cardinals running back Bam Knight in concussion protocol, while the others involved contact on Gardner Minshew and a hit in overtime, a rough finish that fit a broader pattern for Dallas as one of the league's most penalized teams this season. Cardinals Get An O-Line Boost At A Critical Time
The Cardinals are getting some timely help up front for their Week 9 matchup with the Seahawks, with offensive guard Isaiah Adams set to come off injured reserve after missing time with an ankle injury. Arizona has been searching for stability along the offensive line, and Adams return gives the group a needed boost as the game week ramps up.
The roster moves did not stop there, either. Tight end Shawn Bowman and running back Jerome Ford were also elevated from the practice squad for the game, giving Arizona a little extra depth as it heads into a division test that could demand flexibility on both sides of the ball. [Read more 🡒]
Cardinals Face One Big Test After Their Quarterback Shakeup
The quarterback switch in Arizona has already changed the feel around the offense, and now the Cardinals have to show whether it can hold up against a tougher test. Gardner Minshew gives them a different look than Carson Brissett did, and the early returns have been encouraging for a team trying to steady itself through injuries and the usual growing pains of a first-year head coach.
Week 9 against Seattle now looms as the real measuring stick. The Seahawks bring a defense that can force an offense to earn everything, and the way they game plan for Minshew will say plenty about where Arizona stands after the shakeup. The Cardinals have found a little momentum, but this matchup will go a long way toward showing whether it is real. [Read more 🡒]
