The Arizona Cardinals may be staring at one of the toughest calls of their season as the NFL trade deadline approaches, and Budda Baker is right at the center of it.
Baker, who has spent his entire career in Arizona, has surfaced as a possible trade candidate, with the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars among the teams linked to him. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said Baker remains on his radar as a player to watch, while also noting how hard it would be for the Cardinals to part with a longtime fixture of the franchise. Still, Arizona’s losing has reportedly taken a toll on the veteran safety, which could create an opening for interested teams.
For Buffalo and Jacksonville, the appeal is obvious. Both clubs could use another established defensive difference-maker as they try to firm up their playoff push.
Baker would give either secondary a proven presence, along with experience, leadership and versatility. For the Cardinals, though, moving him would send a clear signal that the focus is shifting toward the future rather than the present.
Baker isn’t the only Arizona player drawing attention. Fowler also reported that Josh Sweat has been connected to the Dallas Cowboys, who may still be searching for help off the edge.
A deal there could get tricky, though, because Sweat’s contract situation appears to be a major hurdle. He is in the second year of a four-year, $76 million contract, and the report says he would prefer a new deal as part of any trade or some sort of financial adjustment to his current salary.
Quarterback Jacoby Brissett is another name worth tracking. Fowler reported that Brissett signed a reworked contract in August knowing a midseason trade was possible, and that a change at quarterback had been on the table because of Arizona’s transitional roster. Fowler also said Brissett would welcome a move and that broader conversations have already happened.
With the deadline nearing, the Cardinals have multiple decisions looming. Baker’s situation stands out as the most delicate one, given how deeply he’s tied to the organization, but Buffalo and Jacksonville have enough reason to at least find out whether Arizona would listen.

Cardinals QB Workout Suddenly Puts The Focus On A Bigger Move
The Cardinals spent part of the week taking a closer look at depth options, bringing in seven players for tryouts that included one quarterback, three running backs and three receivers. The group featured a mix of NFL experience, with names such as Ulysses Bentley, Jermar Jefferson, Elijah Tau-Tolliver, Joseph Manjack and Jamari Thrash among those getting a look as Arizona keeps working through roster churn.
The timing matters because the club is already dealing with injuries at receiver, and the quarterback workout adds another layer to what has been a busy stretch. Arizona has been active in scanning the market for help, and a routine tryout day suddenly feels more like part of a larger roster picture, one that could still shift before the dust settles. Cardinals Just Sent A Clear Message About Their Quarterback Plans
Arizonas quarterback room has been shifting for a while, and the latest move only sharpens the picture. Jacoby Brissett is on his way out, with Baltimore finalizing a trade to bring him in as it deals with injuries at the position. For the Cardinals, it is another sign that the pecking order has moved well beyond where Brissett stood when the season opened.
Brissett had already been pushed down to third string in Arizona, behind Gardner Minshew and Carson Beck, so the writing was on the wall even before the trade talks picked up. The deal is expected to be completed by the weekend, which means he will not be available for the Ravens Week 9 game, but it also leaves the Cardinals continuing to sort out what their quarterback depth chart looks like going forward. Cardinals QB Shakeup Could Open The Door For Arizonas Next Move
The quarterback room in Arizona is changing again, with Jacoby Brissett on his way out after being benched and demoted. The Cardinals are finalizing a deal to send him to Baltimore, where the Ravens have been scrambling for depth because of injuries, and Arizona is set to pick up a late-round draft choice in return.
For the Cardinals, the move clears another layer from a position group that has already shifted this season and adds a little more draft capital for the next round of roster building. It also leaves the team with one less veteran option on hand, a reminder that the quarterback picture in Arizona has been fluid enough that even a modest trade can carry some roster ripple effects.
