The Arizona Cardinals have been busy bees in free agency, bolstering almost every position on their roster, with outside linebacker and cornerback being the notable exceptions. Despite this flurry of activity, they find themselves with a healthy cushion under the salary cap.
Right now, according to Over the Cap, the Cardinals boast the fourth-largest cap space in the NFL. They’re sitting pretty with $40.9 million available, even after signing 76 players to contracts. That’s a hefty sum, especially when you consider the league landscape.
Leading the cap space race are the Tennessee Titans with $63.5 million, followed by the Washington Commanders at $49.4 million, and the Los Angeles Chargers close behind with $48.7 million.
However, when we look at "effective cap space"-which factors in the funds needed to sign upcoming draft picks-the Cardinals slide down a notch to fifth place, overtaken by the Seattle Seahawks. In this scenario, Arizona's effective cap space sits at $29.4 million.
It seems the Cardinals are playing the long game, keeping some financial flexibility for future moves, injury coverages, and potential contract extensions. Plus, any leftover cap space from 2026 will roll over to 2027, setting them up for a more aggressive approach next year. It’s a strategic move that could pay dividends down the line.
