The Anaheim Ducks may be without their captain on Friday night.
On Thursday, the team said Mikael Granlund is day-to-day with an upper-body injury, leaving his status uncertain for the matchup with the Boston Bruins.
The Ducks did not say what exactly is bothering the veteran forward, and there’s no clear indication of when the injury happened. Granlund appeared just fine in Tuesday night’s 4-2 loss to the Calgary Flames, a game in which he collected an assist and became the first player in franchise history to open a season with a six-game point streak. He played 20:52 in that defeat, which was right around his season pace.
Even with the injury question hanging over him, Granlund has delivered exactly what Anaheim wanted when it named him captain before the season. He has two goals and six assists for nine points through six games, good for second on the team in scoring. He’s also plus-0 while averaging 19:55 of ice time per night.
His status only adds to a growing injury list for the Ducks. Troy Terry opened the season on long-term injured reserve.
Ryan Poehling is already on injured reserve after spraining his MCL in last Saturday’s game against the Flames, and he is expected to miss 6-8 weeks. Cutter Gauthier is also day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
Anaheim has still managed a solid start to the 2026-27 campaign, winning four of its first six games, but the early wave of injuries could start to bite quickly.
