Ducks Reassign Ian Moore to AHL for Intriguing Short-Term Stint

Ian Moore's brief reassignment to the AHL signals strategic roster adjustments for the Ducks ahead of their game against the Oilers.

The Anaheim Ducks have announced that defenseman Ian Moore will be heading to the AHL’s San Diego Gulls. This marks Moore’s first return to the AHL since the season kicked off.

But Ducks fans shouldn’t worry-this isn’t a permanent move. Moore is set to get some ice time with the Gulls, potentially playing in up to three games before rejoining the Ducks for their matchup against the Edmonton Oilers next Wednesday.

Moore is no stranger to the San Diego squad. The former Harvard University captain wrapped up last season with the Gulls, playing nine games and tallying a goal and five points. This year, he’s only made one appearance in the AHL.

While Moore didn’t initially make Anaheim’s roster out of training camp, he’s become a steady presence for the Ducks this season. In 41 games, he’s netted two goals and added nine points, averaging just over 14 minutes of ice time per game. His possession stats are impressive for a rookie, boasting a 53.5% CorsiFor% at even strength.

Moore’s emergence as a reliable NHL defenseman has stirred up some mixed emotions in Orange County. His strong play early in the season led to reduced ice time for fellow defenseman Pavel Mintyukov, who even contemplated a trade request back in November.
