Ducks Lose Two As Injury Timeline Shifts

The Anaheim Ducks face lineup changes as Cutter Gauthier and Jansen Harkins deal with injuries, impacting their upcoming games and strategies.

The Anaheim Ducks are navigating some injury challenges, as they announced updates on two key forwards. Cutter Gauthier, who’s been a standout this season, is now day-to-day with an upper-body injury sustained during Monday's tight 5-4 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Unfortunately, this means he'll be sitting out the upcoming game against the San Jose Sharks.

In another blow to the lineup, Jansen Harkins has undergone hand surgery following an injury from last week’s clash with the Vancouver Canucks. He’s expected to be sidelined for about four weeks as he recovers.

Gauthier has been a force on the ice this season, tallying 38 goals and 27 assists for a total of 65 points over 73 games. At just 22, he’s already making a significant impact in his second full NHL season, boasting career totals of 58 goals and 52 assists in 156 regular-season games.

The Ducks snagged him in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers back in January 2024, after he was initially picked fifth overall in the 2022 NHL Draft. Before going pro, Gauthier had an impressive stint at Boston College, where he set a school record with 38 goals in his sophomore year.

Meanwhile, Harkins has contributed three goals and five assists in 44 games this season. Over his seven-year NHL career, he’s accumulated 15 goals and 22 assists, playing for the Ducks, Winnipeg Jets, and Pittsburgh Penguins. The Cleveland native will be looking to make a strong comeback once he’s back to full health.

The Ducks will certainly feel the absence of these two players, but with a deep roster and a fighting spirit, they’ll aim to keep pushing forward in the season.
