The Anaheim Ducks have locked in Cruz Lucius on a two-year entry-level contract through the 2027-28 NHL season.
Lucius, a 22-year-old right wing, arrived from the Pittsburgh Penguins in a deal for future considerations on Aug. 19.
Anaheim is adding a forward who just put together a strong year at Arizona State, where he earned a spot on the NCHC First All-Star Team after piling up 15 goals and 31 assists for 46 points in 36 NCAA games. That total was the second-most points in a season in Arizona State history.
His 31 assists ranked seventh among all NCAA skaters last season. He also finished ninth in points per game at 1.28 and 11th in total points. In league play, he led the NCHC in assists per game at .86, placed second in assists and third in points, and he topped the Sun Devils in goals, assists and points on the way to being named team MVP.
The 6-foot, 178-pound forward split his college career between Arizona State and Wisconsin, producing 41 goals and 83 assists for 124 points in 125 games. He led Wisconsin in scoring in 2023-24 with 13 goals and 21 assists for 34 points in 36 games, and as a freshman in 2022-23 he paced the Badgers with 23 assists while finishing with 11 goals and 34 points.
Lucius was originally drafted by Carolina in the fourth round, 124th overall, of the 2022 NHL Draft. The Lawrence, Kansas native also spent two seasons with the United States National Team Development Program from 2020-22, helped Team USA win silver at the 2022 U-18 World Championship, and represented the United States at the 2020 Youth Olympic Games.
