Calle Clang Earns All-Star Nod With One Big Achievement Behind Him

Rising to new heights this season, Calle Clang earns a well-deserved spot in the 2026 AHL All-Star Classic as he continues to make his mark in net for the Gulls.

Calle Clang Earns AHL All-Star Nod, Joins Tim Washe in Rockford

The American Hockey League has officially named Calle Clang to the 2026 AHL All-Star Classic, set for February 10-11 in Rockford, Illinois. At just 23 years old, Clang is carving out a name for himself in net-and now, he’s got the All-Star recognition to prove it.

Clang joins forward Tim Washe as San Diego’s representatives at this year’s event, marking only the fourth time in franchise history the Gulls are sending two players to the All-Star Classic. The last time that happened? Back in 2020, when Chris Wideman and Anthony Stolarz got the nod.

For Clang, this isn’t just a personal milestone-it’s a continuation of a strong lineage of Gulls goaltenders earning All-Star recognition. He becomes the fourth netminder in team history to receive the honor, following in the footsteps of Kevin Boyle (2019), Stolarz (2020), and Lukas Dostal (2023).

And make no mistake: Clang has earned this. Through 19 games this season, he’s put together an 11-3-2 record, tying his AHL career-high in wins.

His 2.39 goals-against average ranks ninth league-wide and second in the Pacific Division, trailing only Colorado’s Isak Posch (2.38). He’s also sporting a .906 save percentage and has posted two shutouts, including his first-ever AHL clean sheet on December 28 against Abbotsford, where he turned away all 15 shots he faced.

Clang’s steady presence in the crease has been a major boost for San Diego this season. He’s now logged 87 career games in the AHL-all with the Gulls-compiling a 33-35-12 record, a 2.97 GAA, .898 SV%, and two shutouts. While the win-loss record doesn’t fully reflect his impact, the numbers show a goalie who continues to grow more consistent and confident with every start.

His journey to this point has been anything but ordinary. Clang was acquired by Anaheim from Pittsburgh in the 2022 trade that sent Rickard Rakell to the Penguins.

Anaheim also picked up Zach Aston-Reese, Dominik Simon, and a second-round pick (which became defenseman Tristan Luneau) in that deal. Since then, Clang has continued to develop, building off his time in Sweden’s SHL, where he went 22-15-0 with two shutouts, a 2.52 GAA, and .906 SV% in 43 games for Rögle BK between 2020 and 2023.

Originally drafted by Pittsburgh in the third round (77th overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft, Clang has been on the radar for a while. He was named Best Junior in Sweden’s HockeyAllsvenskan league in 2020-21 after posting a .919 save percentage and 2.46 GAA over 32 games.

Internationally, he’s been a steady presence for Sweden, suiting up for back-to-back World Junior Championships in 2021 and 2022-earning a bronze in the latter. He also helped Sweden medal in three major youth tournaments in 2019: gold at the U18 Worlds, and bronze at both the Hlinka Gretzky Cup and World U17 Hockey Challenge.

For Clang, the All-Star selection is more than a midseason accolade-it’s a sign that his development is right on track. With his mix of athleticism, poise, and international experience, he’s starting to look like a goaltender who could be knocking on the NHL door before long. But for now, he’ll get to enjoy the spotlight in Rockford, where he’ll represent the Gulls as one of the league’s top netminders.
