Yhonzae Pierre Returns To Alabama And Names One Breakout Teammate

Yhonzae Pierre is back at Alabama, setting his sights on leadership and versatility to elevate his game and the team's defense this season.

Yhonzae Pierre had a decision to make: enter the NFL draft or sharpen his skills for one more season with Alabama. The young edge rusher certainly had momentum on his side. He racked up seven of his eight sacks in the final nine games last season, including a standout performance with 1.5 sacks against Indiana in the Rose Bowl playoff quarterfinal.

Pierre’s impact on the field was undeniable. He recorded 45 total pressures, ranking sixth in the SEC, and his 34 quarterback hurries placed him fifth in the conference. Despite these impressive stats, Pierre chose to stay, focusing on refining his game.

The redshirt junior from Eufaula expressed a desire to "tidy up some of the things that I didn't do right" and address "some of the stuff I left out on the table." His goal is clear: work with his coaches to become a first-round draft pick.

"Just working hard day in and day out, getting the extra work and bringing people along with me, going to the top," Pierre emphasized. His focus remains on maintaining a relentless work ethic, leading by example, and mentoring younger teammates.

The coaching staff is considering utilizing Pierre in various roles this season. While he’s known for his prowess as an outside linebacker (wolf), there’s talk of him taking on responsibilities at bandit (defensive end) as well. This versatility could make him an even more formidable presence on the field.
