Ty Simpson Stuns With Bold NFL Move Over Returning to Alabama

Emerging from Alabamas elite program, Ty Simpson is ready to stake his claim as a leading NFL quarterback.

In the offseason, Ty Simpson faced a pivotal decision about his football future, each option carrying its own set of risks and rewards. He could have opted for another season at Alabama, explored the lucrative offers from teams like Miami via the transfer portal, or, as he ultimately chose, declared for the 2026 NFL Draft.

During a candid session with reporters at the NFL Combine, Simpson opened up about his decision-making process and his readiness to step into the role of a franchise quarterback in the NFL.

“I feel like I’m ready, you know, I’m a franchise quarterback,” Simpson confidently stated. “Alabama prepares you most for the NFL.

With the infrastructure from Coach Saban, Coach DeBoer, Coach Grubb, and all the coordinators I had, I’ve been running an NFL-type system. It’s definitely prepared me for making those long play calls and ensuring we’re in the right protection.”

Simpson's experience at Alabama is rich with NFL-caliber coaching. Ryan Grubb, who recently transitioned from a stint with the Seattle Seahawks to Alabama, exemplifies the level of expertise Simpson has been exposed to. Additionally, Simpson played under Tommy Rees, now the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons, and Bill O’Brien, the former Houston Texans head coach, who was at Alabama when Simpson first arrived.

Despite waiting three years for his starting opportunity, Simpson maximized his time by learning from and competing against future NFL stars, which he credits for his development.

“Everybody talks about my starts, but I’ve played in other games and against really good NFL players,” Simpson explained. “Think about my freshman year, learning from the No. 1 overall pick and Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young.

On defense, on the scout team, I faced talents like Will Anderson Jr., Dallas Turner, Henry To’oTo’o, and Kool-Aid McKinstry. These are first and second-round draft picks I went up against and shared a locker room with.

The Alabama locker room is as close to an NFL environment as you can get.”

Simpson frequently fields questions from NFL teams about his choice to play at Alabama, and he stands by his decision, believing it was the best preparation for his current position.

As the 2026 NFL Draft approaches, Simpson’s journey from Alabama is nearing its end, and a new chapter in his football career is about to begin.
