Ty Simpson entered the 2026 NFL draft as Alabama’s standout quarterback, boasting impressive stats: 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns, and just five interceptions. He was widely regarded as the second-best QB in a talent-packed class.
The Cleveland Browns, intrigued by his potential, brought him in for a Top 30 visit, and coaches couldn't stop praising him. Everything seemed to be on track for Simpson.
Then came an unexpected twist during his appearance on the Up & Adams Show.
Host Kay Adams offered Simpson a draft night gift: a Lego set of his choice. Simpson chose the Pirates of the Caribbean: Black Pearl and quipped, “We can do it together.
That’d be fine.” The clip quickly went viral, sparking comparisons to Aaron Rodgers, who once made a similar remark to a female interviewer.
NFL fans and social media had a field day with the moment.
Some fans drew parallels instantly, while others crafted nicknames and joked about the situation. One fan reminded everyone of the age difference between Simpson and Adams, calling it a “nonstarter.” Despite the chatter, it was clear the Rodgers energy was there, even if the delivery didn’t quite hit the mark.
Interestingly, the football talk during Simpson’s interview was equally bold. He suggested that the Browns, who had the No. 6 and No. 24 picks, should draft both him and Ohio State receiver Carnell Tate.
Simpson believed their chemistry could revolutionize the league. He also highlighted his family’s connection with Browns coach Todd Monken, saying, “I think I’d be in great hands.”
However, with Cleveland already having quarterbacks Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson, adding another QB would be a tough sell to their impatient fanbase. Simpson’s appearance was a mix of audacity and charm, leaving fans entertained and the Browns with plenty to consider.
