Texas Just Added Fuel To A Ranking Debate Fans Know Well

Georgia regains the top spot in a week of major upsets and shifts in the college football rankings.

Another shake-up has hit the AP Top 25, and this one pushed Georgia back to the top.

For the second time this season, the Bulldogs are No. 1 in college football after a wild Week 10 that saw eight ranked teams lose. It also marks the fifth time this year the poll has changed hands at the top.

Notre Dame had a real case to make for the top spot after knocking off No. 1 Miami, and there’s precedent for voters making that kind of leap when a top-five team takes down the nation’s No.

  1. But the Irish didn’t have much else on the resume to help them over the finish line, while Georgia’s body of work carried serious weight.

The Bulldogs have wins at Alabama, over Florida, and at Ole Miss, with all three opponents ranked.

Ohio State took the hardest fall of the week, dropping 10 spots. Back-to-back losses to USC and Oregon have left the Buckeyes looking like a team with little left to play for since losing Julian Sayin.

Ole Miss also slid hard, falling seven places after a brutal 42-7 loss at home to Georgia that put its playoff hopes in serious danger.

LSU dropped nine spots after losing at home to Alabama for the seventh time in its last eight games. That result also left Lane Kiffin at 0-6 all-time against the Crimson Tide.

There were some upward moves, too. Tennessee climbed seven spots after hammering Kentucky at home, a win that nudged the Vols a little closer to playoff contention.

Oregon jumped nine places after its dominant win over Ohio State in Columbus, a result that gives the Ducks a second straight victory and keeps them technically alive in the Big Ten title race.

Alabama and Texas each moved up two spots after road wins over LSU and Missouri, respectively.

Missouri and Florida fell out of the rankings after receiving votes but not enough support to stay in the Top 25. Other teams that drew votes but missed the cut were Duke with 49, Oklahoma State with 21, Liberty with 14, Louisville with 10 and North Texas with 2.

Saban Just Framed Alabamas Biggest Test Against LSU

Alabama got a little healthier heading into one of the seasons biggest games, with wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams, center Racin Delgatty and defensive lineman Terrance Green all cleared to play against LSU. For a team still fighting to keep its SEC title hopes and College Football Playoff path intact, having more options available on both sides of the ball matters, especially in a matchup where every possession can tilt the race.

Nick Sabans bigger concern, though, is how Alabamas defense will hold up against LSUs offense, with Lane Kiffins group presenting a difficult test at a time when there is almost no room for error. With both teams chasing the same high-end goals, this one feels less like a regular-season checkpoint and more like a measuring stick for who can handle the pressure when the stakes are at their highest. Alabamas Defense Set The Tone But DeBoer Sees One Costly Problem

Luke Metzs interception late in the first half helped Alabama carry a 10-3 lead into halftime, and the defense had done most of the heavy lifting by that point. LSU had moved the ball some, but not enough to turn it into points, with Alabama limiting the Tigers to 41 rushing yards and forcing them into a frustrating first-half rhythm.

Even with the scoreboard tilted in Alabamas favor, Kalen DeBoer had a clear sense that the margin could have been better. LSU had still reached 209 yards before the break, and both coaches had room to talk about what their teams needed to clean up after the opening 30 minutes. For Alabama, the challenge was less about the effort than about turning a strong defensive start into something more secure. [Read more 🡒]

Alabama LSU Just Got More Interesting After GameDay Weighed In

ESPNs College GameDay added another layer to an already charged Alabama-LSU week by putting its picks on the record for the Saturday showdown in Baton Rouge. The panel split on the matchup, with Nick Saban backing Alabama while Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee and Jason Sudeikis leaned toward LSU, a reminder of just how much attention this rivalry still commands when the calendar turns to November.

The game is set for 2:30 p.m. CT at Tiger Stadium and will air on ABC, giving the Crimson Tide a familiar stage in one of the SECs most watched spots. With GameDays predictions now out there, the buildup has only sharpened, and Alabama heads into the weekend with the added intrigue of seeing where some of the sports biggest voices landed on the Tigers.
